Sitting meditation is a wonderful practice. We find it helps us live more fully in each moment and see our inter-dependent nature more clearly. We have also found that practicing with a group can deepen and reinforce the experience. So we have decided to start a meditation group that will meet in our home every other Monday evening from 7pm to 8:30pm. Our first meeting will be Monday, October 12.

We plan to begin by following a simple plan: 20 minutes of silent sitting meditation, followed by 10 minutes of walking meditation, followed by another 20 minutes of silent sitting. People are welcome to practice any form of meditation they prefer (mindfulness, focus on the breath, insight, etc.). If you are thinking "this sounds interesting, but I could never get into the Lotus position!" - no worries. You can sit on a chair, the couch, your own cushion (and we'll have a few extra meditation cushions); whatever is comfortable.

For now, the group will not be affiliated with any one style of practice or meditation teacher. We welcome people from a wide variety of backgrounds and spiritual practice - think of the "Coexist" bumper sticker.

If you aren't already practicing meditation, we hope you'll join us and give it a try. Please plan to arrive 15 minutes early for some basic instruction, and let us know to expect you by sending email to petedignan at gmail.com (I left out the @ to thwart spammers). This book is one good place to start learning more about meditation: http://tinyurl.com/ye6tvgv

We want to make it clear up front that we are leading this meditation group in a logistical and practical sense only; we are not meditation teachers or experts. It is our hope that the group will function in an "open source" way over time, with many people contributing leadership and ideas. For instance, if the majority of the group has interest, we could read and discuss books about meditation practice at some of the meetings.

We plan to meet in our home (6636 S Crocker Way, Littleton CO 80120) as long as we have enough room.

We hope you will visit our group and decide if it's for you.
