Lore: After traveling to the site of an ancient ritual, the Dawnbringer Mercenary Company discovered an abandoned village. Within, they found a dismantled device tied to a simulacrum of the ancient scholar Erik Tarren. While assembling the device, they learned that the ritual site sat adjacent to a Xixian vault, where a piece of Cessius – the weapon once used by the Demon Emperor – had been sealed away by his minions while they awaited his return.

The Dawnbringers worked to reassemble the simulacrum device, while several members of their party met with Shosan Ver, one of the demon princes of Xixis. Shosan claimed that he was seeking peace with the races of Mythralis – but that in order to gain the necessary influence, he would need to eliminate his family members that were closer to the throne. While some members of the group balked at the thought of an alliance with a demon, he managed to sway enough of the group to form a temporary alliance.

A traitor was discovered among the Shadowblades that accompanied the group, but he managed to escape before he could be arrested. The traitor presumably reported Shosan’s betrayal to the other demons, as they began to assault the camp almost immediately after the traitor escaped.

While fighting off the demons and their minions, the group managed to break into the Xixian vault and retrieve the piece of Cessius. They also completed the repairs on the simulacrum device by using a gemstone fueled by the essence of one of their party members. One of Shosan’s brothers – the demon prince Korus – arrived with an entourage to reclaim the piece of Cessius and deal with his brother’s betrayal. In the ensuing battle, Korus and his minions were slain.

After achieving these victories, the Dawnbringers and their allies have turned north, moving to attempt to intercept the armies of Valeria. Valeria seems intent on invading the Forest of Blades, even as the forest’s defenders dedicate their resources toward the ongoing demon threat. While many members of the Paladins of Laos have reservations about meeting with the Valerians – as their orders prevent them from taking a side if combat ensues – they remain with their party to play a diplomatic role, hoping to prevent a war between nations while the demon threat still rages. The group plans to continue to dedicate their resources toward finding the next step toward eliminating the demon threat, even as they march their group toward what they hope will be a diplomatic meeting with the Order of the Open Hand.
