Terrence Brewer Trio w/ special guest Dmitri Matheny

Guitarist Terrence Brewer's trio will be joined for this show by flugelhornist Dmitri Matheny, whom Meetup members were thrilled by when he recently performed with his own group at Chapel of the Chimes' jazz series.

COST: $10 to $15 sliding scale for the show. Buy your own tickets at the door (no advance sales). I think this venue may be CASH ONLY. Seating is general admission in this informal, largely volunteer-run venue.

PRE-SHOW DINNER OPTION: When you RSVP, indicate if you want to join me for dinner beforehand at Chili Cha Cha 2, a good, inexpensive Thai restaurant about a block away.

WHERE/WHEN TO MEET: If doing dinner, meet in front of the restaurant at[masked]th Street (between Shotwell and Van Ness) by 5:45 p.m. If meeting for the show, meet out front of the Red Poppy's door on 23rd Street between 7:00 p.m. and 7:10 p.m.

HOW TO FIND ME: I'm WF, Boomer generation with short auburn hair. I'll send my cellphone number and more details on what I'm wearing to RSVPers, so be sure to check your email for that and bring my cellphone number with you. If I get a seat before all RSVPers show up, I'll post my seat location to this Event page so you can find me.

SHOWTIME: The show starts at 7:30 p.m.; the doors open at 7:00 p.m. Because this is such a small venue, shows here often sell out. (Concerts usually include 2 sets plus an intermission, for a total duration of 2 1/4 hours.)

Great jazz in an intimate setting! Terrance Brewer and trio with Dmitri Matheny played lively jazz, standards and originals. Tasty food at Thai Restaurant. Thanks, Paula for hosting.

Excellent performances by all the musicians, playing a very nice cross-section of standards and original compositions; good food at reasonable prices at the Thai restaurant; and lively, interesting conversations with Meetup members at both venues. A home run! :)

Currently, I believe it's me, Lisa and Digne for dinner beforehand (a couple other people TBD), with the rest of the folks meeting up at the Red Poppy.

Just a reminder: if you're signed up on the RSVP list for tonight's Meetup event but realize you cannot make it, please change your RSVP to No so that I'll have an accurate headcount and know how many people to be on the lookout for - thanks!

If you're driving to the Meetup event tonight, note that a section of Folsom Street (between 7th and 12th Streets) is closed off today due to the annual fetish/leather fair, which runs until 6:30 p.m. Their website says more than 400,000 people attended last year.

I've sent my cellphone number and description to folks Saturday afternoon, so be sure to have that info with you on Sunday to help us all find each other, especially if you're skipping dinner and aiming to meet up outside the Red Poppy before the show. NOTE: If we're missing anyone when we gather outside the Red Poppy, I'll text information to this Event Page on where we wind up sitting, so that any stragglers can more easily locate us inside the performance space.

I'll be going on BART and joining you for dinner, 'tho I might not be able to stay for the entire 2 1/2 hr show unless anyone is driving from the East Bay that I could carpool with, which would make the trip home a lot quicker.
