Using Twitter to communicate at Monterey Jazz Fest

From: user 6.

Okay, here's how I'm going to broadcast my whereabouts, and look for all of you, at Monterey Jazz Fest:

On Twitter.com, I will post tweets using the hashtag #MJFMU (Monterey Jazz Fest Meetup) to say where I am, what's hot and ask what you're all listening to.

How many of you are on Twitter and what's your handle?  Mine is JessicaRothhaar.

If you're not on Twitter but have a cell or smartphone and are willing to try, here's what you do - it's free.

1) Go to Twitter.com and create an account.

2) To find and follow me, either go to Who To Follow and enter Jessica Rothhaar, or just type JessicaRothhaar in the search box.

3) Set up the Twitter app on your smartphone.

4) If you don't have a smartphone, you can register your cell phone on Twitter and send posts as Text messages to 40404, and direct Twitter to text you when I post or when anyone posts something with #MJFMU in it.

5) At the festival, if you want to see where I or anyone else in the group is, enter #MFJMU in the searchbox in your Twitter app, and it'll bring up all the posts using that hashtag.

6) If you want to say where you are at the festival, or ask where others are or what's good, post your tweet in the What's Happening box and include #MJFMU, or send a text to 40404 using #MJFMU --- that way, anyone searching for #MJFMU will see your Tweet in their search results.

Clear as mud?

Let me know if you want me to go over this with you online while you're looking at Twitter.  It's a great tool for stuff like this.
