Oscar Party with the Livermore Movie Buffs

Watch the Oscars with us and play trivia. This will be a big event. This year it will only be the Livermore Movie Buffs members and guests. The last 2 yrs we joined the Oscar Party at The Vine. But they are charging  $10-15 more this yr, and I want everyone that can attend to do so. I have recieved many e-mails from members asking me to ask for a discount(Which the Vine refuses) and it was to costly. So i was hoping to find another place with alot of TV's and charge as little as I can. So this yr it will be at Roundtable Pizza on East Avenue. They sit over 60 people, and have 10 TV's all over the walls. They will have every TV tuned in on the Academy Awards. They serve awesome pizza, have a salad bar, serve wine and beer, and it will be only us there for that sunday night. The $5 that im charging will be for the prizes. We will have a trivia contest with our own member Rob asking questions about oscars from its start in 1929 to 1975 and I will ask questions from 1976 till 2011 (multiple choice). We will form groups with a captain. We will be asking the trivia questions during each commercial. Of course we will have a contest with the Oscar Ballot.  You can print the ballot from this site:  http://o.aolcdn.com/os/movies/awards/2012-oscar-ballot.  It needs to be filled out with your choices before the telecast starts and given to me to grade them. We will have 1st and 2nd on each contest. I really do hope that we can get all of u to come and join us. It will be a blast and alot of fun. I set up paypal account so u can pay that way.     George I just wanted to say "thank you" for all your hard work on this. I know there was some disappointment on the venue, loud noise, etc. , but you succeeded in finding a location that was less expensive and would accommodate a large group like us - very hard to do. It was a fun gathering and your effort is really appreciated. Just goes to show you that this group can have a great time no matter where we go!

    Thanks for everyone who came and those who had fun, I had a great time and Congrats to the winners of the Ballot Contest which ended up with a tie, Nichelle and Floyd and also the winners of the Trivia contest. 100% of the $5 charge for this event went back to the winners. Thanks for the new members who came and i hope that you had a great time. I host this meet-up event only for the enjoyment of others and my love for movies. I rent out some places that we get together and pay a monthly fee for the meet-up site and I dont ask one penny from others. All this is for my new friends that i have come to know since Sept 2nd 2009 and for my love of the cinema and for all those who enjoy to meet-up with new friends. Thanks again for your company and i hope to see you next month.

    Sorry Lawrence, I agree with your complaints. I had a hard time finding a venue where a large group could get together and watch broadcast tv. This was the only place I could find which would work with our group size. Unfortunately the volume was not controlled by a single audio source. All of the TVs had to be manually controlled individually so to travel to each tv between commercials to turn them down and then up again was just not feasible.

    The get-together was good, and everyone was laughing and having fun. But the event had a few problems. The biggest problem of all was the noise-level.

    Whenever the Oscars went on commercial-break, the ads were as loud as an artillery blast. Added to this was George's trivia contest--usually a lot of fun, but the questions were bellowed out to try to be heard over the TV. I said more than once that the ads needed to be muted, but nobody could hear me.
