Questing for Quirky

A quest. A mission. An adventure.

You will learn about yourself. You will learn about others. And your comfort zone will be stretched. Be prepared for teaming up to go on a quest for quirky!

We will meet between 6:45 and 7:15 pm where all details will be given more in depth. We'll be leaving the rendezvous location promptly at 7:15 pm, so make sure to come on time!

(Hint: you will want shoes you are comfortable walking in and a metro card.)

    :: RECAP 1 ::
I had envisioned a much less chaotic beginning to the quest, but the rain had other plans in mind. So we relocated to begin indoors across the street in the Whole Foods cafe.

With eyes wide and anticipation high, I handed out the superhero "badges" and began to form the teams as people arrived. Slowly revealing more and more details by giving out questing packages with printed explanations and a few pre-launch missions for getting to know each other.

Finally, everyone was in their teams and ready to open the package INSIDE the package to begin the quest!!!

Through a series of Missions and Q-Bombs, detailed yet open to interpretation instructions led each team to a Summit location of their choosing and back to the rendezvous (aka Whole Foods again).

We should also just do this again with new teams and different questions. Maybe each person who attended the first quest should email you a question they'd love to ask others, and you can put them together into a whole new quest that will unveil more quirkiness. :)

Great ideas, Natalia! I'm re-thinking some of the logistics for better flow and definitely agree about mixing up the teams and such. I've got a bunch more cards, so we can also just do a simple version of the quirky cheer spreading. The quotes idea is also interesting. I like the element of surprise!

Even despite the rain, Quirky meetups are always the best meetups ever. THANK YOU Christina for all the creativity you poured into our missions- that was a true feat you pulled off there, and so original. These missions truly were built to help inspire us, pull us out of our comfort zones, give us a smile, and create a sense of unity. Thank you EDDIE for the Umbrella of Confidence! It was hilarious and our group made very good use of it! And thank you Andy and Christina for your listening ears... The Quirksters really are my favorite group of people. I've never been in such a loving and caring group and I feel it radiate in me when I'm with you all. See you all soon!

Where was I? Mike you weren't where you were suppose to be... But but but I was desperately trying to stay dry under my umbrella ella ella ahh ahh with president Washington or was it the Indians, or or or um um um by the Monument with a glass of wine by my side! Mike that's not where you were suppose to be, you should have been looking at the updates on Meetup on your iPad instead... But it's impossible to hold a glass of wine in one hand, an umbrella in the other, a Metrocard between one toe, an iPhone in the other toe, and an iPad between my legs... Mike you need to get yourself together with your quirky-self before you can start to think "living quirky", hanging out quirky, meditating quirky and hanging out with the "Quirky Crowd".

No problem. I was actually writing a new song, "Quirking In The Rain". That's perhaps why I didn't notice Natalia... Or was it the wine the reason I didn't notice Natalia, hmmm.

Was looking forward to meeting new quirksters (everyone is soo boring in regular life), but fractured my rib, major pain.

So how was the event? I'm jazzed to hear about it!

    1 · May 22, 2014

Wanted to attend, but this very recent break in my rib, makes almost anything out of bed, very painful and cannot get appropriate medication. If anyone has the name of an MD, who understands this level of pain - please write me privately. Thanks. Hope all goes well tonight and you have some needed fun, since not much fun going around.

FYI #2, we will be relocating to dryness in the whole foods 2nd floor cafe area which is literally right across the street from the statue. Look for the 6 inch plastic green frog and myself in a red jacket!

I am here (at whole foods) but I don't see you

Christina, these characters are awesome! I think we're all looking forward to tonight.

Quick question, as I'm not sure if we will be spending the majority of our time outside. How will the rain be a major drag on the meetup?

    May 22, 2014

    • Ehab

Sorry. I meant will the rain be a drag on the meetup*

Wow, all this sounds really interesting. Will there be a post event recap and event photos?

    1 · May 21, 2014

  • Christina S.

Happy Wednesday fellow quirksters! I can't tell you how EXCITED I am for tomorrow! I've been carefully preparing everything and I think it's going to be quite the epic quest!

    Just a few reminders:

#1 - Please arrive on time! You can come at 6:45 pm to find your team for pre-launch prep. I'd highly suggest this because at 7:15 pm we will all be embarking on the quest. (Meaning if you come after 7:15 then no one will be there!)

#2 - We will be gathering near the George Washington statue at Union Square on the south end. Seems like we will be a large crowd, so you shouldn't have trouble finding us. #3 - We will be going for a post-questing food hangout around 9:30 pm. So, you may not want to arrive starving.

      + something special:
The quest is designed around quirky superhero characters that I've developed. If you have a few minutes, you can read through the descriptions and think about which character you'd like to be during the quest:
      http://livingquirky.c...
(this isn't necessary beforehand, you can still just choose when you arrive tomorrow)

+ in case you are nervous about what type of atmosphere the quest will be:

      The Questing Creed

During this quest, we vow to give our full presence and to have an open mind and heart.

We will choose to find the joy and celebrate each step of the way.

We promise to be inclusive and look for ways to honor everyone in the quest.

We may be pushing our comfort zones, which can feel a little scary. However, it should still feel exciting and fun! If something doesn’t feel good, then we promise to speak up and to listen and respect anyone who is uncomfortable.
