Cross Country skiing (hiking if no snow) Kensington metropark

  • February 23, 2014 · 11:00 AM

Fred will be hosting this event in my absence so he may change things.  Idea is to cross country ski/ or hike if there is no snow.

Cross-Country Skiing

Fasten your skis and glide across more than twelve miles of groomed trails at Kensington Metropark. Coast past snow-glazed fields, frozen ponds and beautiful deciduous woods. Beginner and intermediate level trails traverse the park and golf course.

The Ski Center is located at the Golf Course. Rental equipment will be available Saturdays, Sundays and Holidays from 10 am to 5:30 pm with the last rental at 4:30 p.m.(weather and trail conditions permitting). The Ski Center also offers public restrooms and limited food service. Special equipment rental rates are available for organized groups on weekdays. Please schedule a minimum of one week in advance and pre-payment is required.

Trail maps are available at the Ski Center, tollbooths or the Kensington Park Office. Skiing is prohibited in the following areas: Nature Study Area and nature trails, sledding hills and toboggan runs, snowboarding hill, and on the golf course greens. Trails are open 6 am to 10 pm and they are not lit. Please use only marked ski trails.

The ice was a little challenging but it was nice to be outdoors.

All things considered, it was a great event. The weather was tremendous...look at the blue sky in the pictures. Temperature was just below freezing. There was still a pretty good snow base, but it was somewhat icy. So there were times we had trouble staying on track, but the ice made for good gliding. We started on the golf course and then went up the west side of Kent Lake, crossed over the main road and then circled back near the Nature Center. Took about 2 hours. Would do it again.

Hi Fred I think we're going to bail for tomorrow due to the ice- wel'll catch you next time.

I just called KensingtonPolice and they had skiing today and expect conditions to be ok for Sunday. Maybe a little icy. Let's try.

Thanks, Fred! I appreciate it. Barb has changed over to Sundays instead of Saturdays, so it is difficult to attend.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
