Cycling at Kensington Park

  • April 27, 2014 · 1:00 PM

Hi we are trying something new for this group - cycling at Kensington.  We will cycle around the lake one or two times.  Each lap is about 8.5 miles on a paved trail.  We will meet at the West boat launch picnic area which is the first parking area after entering the park from Kensington road. begin the trip from near there.  They have restroom facilities as well.

Hope to see you out there!  Just a side note, I don't know how to fix bicycles in case you get a flat.  I will have an air pump on my bike though.  Please wear a helmet.  Just go at your own pace.  I'm a slow rider myself!

Time: 1pm

Meeting Place: West boat launch picnic area

Duration: 2.5 hours or so (might be less depends on the group)

Difficulty: moderate as there are a few hills, riding about 8-16 miles

Some tough hills with a bit of a head wind but we made it! Good first ride if the season. Nice lunch afterwards

A good ride, but windy and cold. Had to layer up.

Sorry but I have to bail - I have been reminded of a previous commitment.

If you want to go on our rides, you need to wear a helmet. Better to be safe than sorry.

Helmets are no longer mandatory at Kensington.
The general public voted against it.

People on our rides should wear one.

I checked the map carefully and the area I used today was called the west boat launch and it is BETWEEN the golf course and the nature center on the right side of road (as you move from golf course to nature center. It is just south of the nature center and has a big parking lot.
The nature center will work also, we did that last year, but you have to take your bikes across the main road and it has a smaller parking lot.

I think that is the one I was trying to refer to...I did not mean the golf course parking lot...the next one over from the golf course...it has a play area for children, restrooms, boat launch, and a fishing dock.

the parking lot Delphine refers to is "west boat launch". If you are riding, it is the better place to park vs. the nature center - more spots, on the trail (unless you're riding the road). PM me for any other details.

Helmets are always needed on our rides!

Golf course is not near bike trail. Better place is first picnic area up from nature center, on the right. I used it today and there is a lot of space, it has test rooms and the trail is right there.

I think a better place to start would be the parking lot near the golf course...more space to park with restrooms...helmets are required

    Is helmets required at Kensington

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
