Afro-Latin Dance Workshops
Juan Carlos is a qualified dance and Fitness Instructor with 5 years of experience in London, with an extensive trajectory as dancer for different dance folk groups in the UK and Latin America.
During the past year he was traveling around South America with the purpose of studying Latin American Dances.
The workshop is intended to introduce the participants to the history of the music and take them to experience the dances with easy to follow steps and focused on proper dance technique and body movement.
The rhythms that will take place in the workshops are: Colombian Salsa a contemporary and popular dance with a particular style, Cumbia a very traditional and cultural dance from Colombia and Bachata an international dance with Latin American roots, now danced widely all over the world.
Colombian Salsa: is based in the City of Cali, this city is also known as the "Capital de la Salsa" (World's Salsa Capital); due to salsa music being the main genre in parties, nightclubs and festivals.
The elements of Cali-Style Salsa were strongly influenced by other dances to Caribbean rhythms which preceded salsa, such as Pachanga and Boogaloo.
Cumbia: originated in Colombia's Caribbean coastal region, from the musical and cultural fusion of Native Colombians with the music and culture of the slaves brought from Africa during colonial times.
Bachata: is a style of dance that originated in the Dominican Republic in the early parts of the 20th century and spread to other parts of Latin America and Mediterranean Europe. It became popular in the countryside and the rural neighbourhoods of the Dominican Republic.

Afro-Colombian Shamanic Rhythms
Afro-Colombian Shamanic Rhythms will explore the magical and ancestral sounds that travelled across the sea, mountains and rivers from Africa to Colombia and all over Latin America. The grief and sorrow of the african slaves melted with lament of the native americans. Thus, the African drums and Indigenous flutes were forever married to give birth to the Cumbia, Mapale, Puya, Bullerengue and Currulao among other Rhythms.
