Talking UI/UX for Location Based Apps

Hi Everybody

Our next meetup is scheduled for Wednesday, January 25th at 6:45pm at the AOL Ventures space at 770 Broadway (entrance on 9th street).

This month we'll be talking with Rachit and Adit Shukla of Two Toasters about UI/UX best practices for building location based apps. What UI elements are most important for location based apps, and how do they work together? What types of user experience should we be building for? We'll be covering these questions and a whole lot more, so if you're like me and you like to geek out on the finer point of app development and design then this discussion is for you (and if you're not, you should come anyway because it's going to be totally fascinating!).

Rachit and Adit are the CEO and Creative Director respectively at Two Toasters. Two Toasters is a design focused development team that has built some of the most awesome (and elegant) location based apps out there, including apps for Yipit, GateGuru, BiteHunter, and a whole bunch more. They'll share some of their expertise and walk us through a couple of their use cases, and as always we'll have plenty of time for Q&A and group discussions.

We'll also be featuring two awesome demos, to be announced shortly, so check back soon for updates.

Looking forward to seeing everybody on the 25th!

michael

Broadcastr and Bar and Club stats look like really cool ideas. I learned a bit from Two Toasters, but dunno if I would say *that* much. Good answers though.

What was the name of the bar and club startup? That idea sounded amazing.

Would be in favor of wiki. Could also try scheduling another casual meet up for mixing, since many unable to attend.

Maybe a meetup designed specifically for this. Instead of passing the mike around we could do a format that would promote more mixing it up like speed pitching ?

Thanks to the Two Toasters guys--great to listen to a substantive presentation by folks who know their stuff!

Also, our startup (www.crimsonbamboo.com) is looking for new projects after we launch a big update (and Android version and better website) to our Rama travel app in the coming months. We are interested in ideas on how to expand Rama further or apps related to healthcare/medicine. We'd be interested in partnering, sharing resources, or taking on a new team member, for the right idea.

Just to clear up some confusion ... the app I mentioned last night, "I'm Getting Arrested" was developed for demonstrators aka Occupy Wall Street (not bad guys). Here is a link to the Activist Demo Day event this weekend:

And the app next time you peacefully demonstrate:

Hi, unfortunately I can't make tonight, but I have been developing a LBS tour guide that matches traveller interests to attractions and events. We are hoping to launch this spring and I was hoping to meet developers working in HTML5 wrappers as Apps connected to mobile internet services.

Hi Cem, I am an Android expert who has a lot of experience with Location Based apps. I will likely not make it tonight because I am too far down the waiting list, but get in touch, I can help.

Hello guys, I'm so sorry to trouble you with this email and apologize for any inconvenience if i cause any.

My team is developing a location based app. We have a UI and background service. These two don't overlap in any way.
What we need is to merge those two source codes to make it one app. We are in a time crunch, so if there is anyone that can do it, please let me know, we would be more than happy to compensate you for that. Alternatively we would appreciate any pointers how to do it.
