Come learn how to safely run rapids on the Stanislaus River from Knight's Ferry to Honolulu Bar. This is a really great run to learn on, with the Russian Rapids right at the start and a scenic, exciting paddle to the take out. These are invaluable skills to have if you want to fully enjoy paddling a river, so please call or come by the shop to pay and reserve your spot today!

Had a memorable day on the river, came home with a few bruises as souvenirs. It was my first time kayaking in whitewater, and learned as much analyzing why I fell out of my boat as I did trying to stay in it! Zach was such a help talking me through some of the rapids. I plan to take the currents class to take it a bit slower.
I do not want to give up on this, it is a rush!

We had a great time paddling thru the Russian rapids, learned the proper way to float downstream when out of your boat, and how to throw a rescue rope. The rest of the trip was a very nice float to the take-out. I think everyone got tossed out of their boat at least once so we also had rescue experience. I just wish I had a water blaster to return fire to the people in the rafts!

How do I find you all?! 4 meetups with other groups, and never found them. Zack or someone, I will too, have a sign; Headwaters? Paddlers?

Been kayaking Knights Ferry for 13 years. Called them, Low water 2-3 feet deep, few rapids, slow. May not be the teaching river you wish, hope for. I would love to go and hang with you. 50 min.from Turlock, anyone need a ride?

Zack, how difficult is this? I don't think I could do this in my kayak (without the bulkhead)?

    June 26, 2013

    • Zack B.

It won't be very difficult, but a little experience with moving water and Eddies will definitely be helpful. I'm scheduling another intro to currents class for Tuesday, July 16 at 4pm that would be a good introduction to those concepts and then another of these whitewater basics sometime in August most likely. You should really get some float bags for your kayak since it doesn't have a bulkhead.
