Paddle up the Mokelumne River - CHANGE OF LAUNCH LOCATION!!!

In order to accommodate the large number of people who have indicated they will attend this event, the launch location has been changed to Lodi Lake Park, 1101 West Turner Road, Lodi, 95242.  A fee is collected for vehicle entry into the park whether or not a gate attendant is on duty.  A self-service pay station is available directly north of the entry gate.  Fees are: $4 - Lodi resident; $5 -  non-resident; $2 - Lodi senior (62-over) resident; $3 - non-resident senior.  There is no additional fee for kayak or canoe launch.  We still plan to meet at the boat ramp at 9:30 a.m. and be on the water by 10 a.m.  The boat ramp is at the north end of the park (the road dead-ends there).  Restrooms are located nearby, and there is a lawn area for setting up gear.  Lodi Lake Park can be reached from I-5 by taking the Turner Road exit and heading east about 5.5 miles, or from Hwy. 99 by taking the Turner Road exit and going west about 1.75 miles.  The lake is on the north side of Turner Road.  This change will add about 3.5 miles of scenic river views before we reach Hwy. 99 to continue our paddle.

Let’s paddle up the Mokelumne River and see some Fall foliage also maybe work off a few extra calories from our Thanksgiving meal. The Mokelumne River is a very pretty river with clean water in this area with lots of foliage. There should be just a slight current this time of year but nothing to worry about even if you’re new to paddling. There's not a set destination, we can decide how far we want to go the day of the paddle and because this is an up and back paddle people can turn around at any point and not have to worry about getting lost. We’ll meet at 9:30 AM and try to be in the water at 10 AM. Bring plenty of water and a lunch, also dress according to the weather. A PFD is a must!

Yes Dina either a kayak or maybe a canoe, something you can paddle. You can rent a kayak from Headwaters kayak shop in Lodi if you need to.

Just a note asking you to check out the web site for the Toulumne River Trust -http://www.tuolumne.org/content... (cut and paste this link into your browser....) They are calling for donations and volunteers to help restore the watershed of the Toulunme that was destroyed by the Rim Fire.

I am hoping that we can be the catalysts for the Mokelumne --- can we expand "Save the Mokelumne", or whatever group there may be that will help us do for the Mokelumne what they have done for the Toulumne??? Look over there site.... do you think we could someday sponsor a "Paddle to the Sea" for the Mokulumne? They have a "Paddle with the Salmon" in November each year.... couldn't we do to raise funds for the Mokelumne???

Marilyn, check out the Foothill Conservancy website for info on the Moke preservation and protection activities. I am a member and participant in this group that is based in Jackson. The upper part of the Moke is applying for permanent Wild & Scenic preservation status especially along the Electra run above Camanche Res. but they look at the big picture of riparian preservation and protection on our favorite waterway.

On another issue: I have had contact with the Lodi Police Dept. and the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Marine Patrol --- They are interested in meeting with those concerned about improving the safety issues on the Mokelumne and on Lodi Lake. Are you interested in helping them discuss options, look for solutions, open up the communications???

If so, email ([masked]) me your name, phone number, and email address. We will find a meeting place (maybe a monthly meeting of the Lodi Paddle Club @ Headwaters?????) and let you know where and when.

The Mokelumne River RV Park informed me that they wouldn't be able to accommodate the number of people that have signed up to do the paddle on November 30 so I've moved the launch location to Lodi Lake. Same time, same river, just as much fun!!!

Howdy! I'm somewhat of a novice kayaker. I've had a bracing class several years back. Thinking about getting a kayak and exploring the Mokelumne.
