Iteration zero - what is it and should it exist?

Booking for this meetup opens on Tuesday 6th August at 8pm.

Iteration zero is often used as a precursor to projects (a feature of it being that it is the only iteration not to produce working software). Should it exist? Is there a better way to ensure that your project is set up before you start? Or should you just crack straight into iteration 1?

The event will be held in the upstairs room at The Plumbers Arms. The sessions are informal and we are happy for you to eat the pub grub / drink during the meetup (the pies are pretty nice).

The pub's site gives directions: http://www.taylor-walker.co.uk/pub/plumbers-arms-belgravia/c0685/

Thanks to everyone who made this a very playful session! Some strong opinions on iteration 0, healthy debate about how to practically try to avoid it. Post it pics are uploaded

Hi Eugene, Hope you had a good weekend. I was getting on to check if I could instigate a debate about sprint 0, zilch etc, when I checked the history of topics and disappointed to see that it's already done and back in Aug last year. Since you did run it, can you briefly summarise salient points of what the vote was wrt this concept? I'm torn because we have prep sprints, called sprint 0 in my workplace but I don't really like the idea and think it's best to just kick off sprints from 1, 2 and so on. But really want to hear what others had to say. thanks

    Hello friends,

My first meetup later today !! A little nervous about it, as I seem to be the newest SCM amongst very senior Scrum Masters. I have 6 months' work experience as a Scrum Master and currently lokking for a new job. Any pointers / help would be hugely appreciated. Regards,
    AV
