About the Horniman Museum
The museum was established to display the amazing collection of artifacts and interesting items from all over the world belonging to John Horniman, the tea merchant, collector, and traveler. It is set in Forest Hill, South London (in Zone 3) and is a 15 minute train journey away from London Bridge or Overground from Canada Water. The museum was setup in 1901 to house the overflow of items contained within John Horniman's own house which was bursting at the seams with the treasures he had collected.
There are over 350,000 exhibits in the Horniman Museum from natural history, musical instruments, fossils, tribal artifacts. The museum also has a famous aquarium.
The Horniman Museum is set within its own landscaped gardens which you can also wander around. Although some parts of the gardens are undergoing refurbishment.
The museum(excluding aquarium) and gardens have free entry!
