Draw London Tango Orchestra and dancers, Paternoster Square, July 18th 11.30am

  • Bring sketchpad along and enjoy tango in the open air!

The largest professional tango orchestra in the country returns to the festival after their debut last year. Come and learn the basics from professional dancers or simply sit back and enjoy the passion and drama of this most spirited art form.

Meet outside Starbucks, Paternoster Square at 11.30 am for 12 noon start. (St Paul's tube). This is a free event but please donate £1 towards meet up running costs.

The London Tango Orchestra is the largest professional tango group in the country, a real "orquesta tipica" uniting leading UK tango musicians with players from Argentina. The orchestra was founded in 2009 by Caroline Pearsall and is the first of its kind in the UK.
The orchestra performs music from the rich repertoire of tango, old and new, sharing its love of tango music through concerts, milongas and workshops and cultural exchanges between musicians from Europe and Argentina.

They have played for festivals such as the City of London Festival and many milongas in the London area. In the summer of 2012 they were filmed for a documentary on tango music by the BBC.
So please come along and dance to classic tunes by Troilo, Pugliese D'Arienzo and Di Sarli or sit back and relax listening to the driving spirit and melancholia of Piazzolla and Mederos.
We promise en exotic experience filled with passion and drama!

    The orchestra's current musicians are:
    Caroline Pearsall (violin & direction)
    Guillermo Rozenthuler (voice)
    John Turville (piano)
    Enrique Galassi (bass)
    Jamie Barclay (violin)
    Wei Wei Tan (viola)
    Adam Spiers (cello)
    Ian Hill (bandoneon)
    Eve Cupial (bandoneon)

Thanks Julia. I enjoyed sketching in Paternoster Square. What a scorcher it was! Great to meet you and other artists, and to share our work afterwards.

Some lively sketches produced of tango dancers in the sunshine. Lovely group, great music - an enjoyable afternoon!

Sorry, but I can't come(though I like the sound of it- it clashes with another commitment)- would love to go next time!

I'm looking forward to trying to draw this, is it also OK to bring a guest who doesn't draw but would enjoy the dancing and music?
