Last year I did a series of drawings recording the construction of the new royal row barge Gloriana that led the Jubilee river pageant . A once in a lifetime experience. Now looking for something as memorable as a new project! I'm also a trustee of JMW Turner's house in Twickenham, Sandycombe Lodge (he designed it himself in 1813, it's empty and waiting for us to raise the money to restore it and open it to the public.
The trustees of Turner's House want to encourage artists to come and draw and paint there - it's very atmospheric although quite small. Architecture heavily influenced by Sir John Soane who was Turner' s friend. We're aiming to have an exhibition of artists ' responses to the house when we have enough pictures.
I'm a retired architect-planner but have always preferred to draw things that move rather than stand still. I like drawing fast in unusual locations. Should have been a war artist."it's never too late to become what you might have been".
