Warm, Fast-growing, Frank & Constructive COMMUNITY, for rationalists/ atheists. Non believers of any description welcome. 'Agnostics', Deists & Religious doubters also welcome.

We're happy to sincerely engage in constructive dialogue with anyone, religious people/groups included, as long as the position is declared upon joining and honest and civil debate takes place.

Enjoy genial like-minded company - while making a difference! -SERIOUS DOESN'T HAVE TO MEAN POMPOUS!

UK Meetup's BUSIEST webforum - You can join in wherever you live - Daily discussions (serious & humorous!) Non-London & overseas members

  • Frequent meetups & varied events in Central & West London; debates, talks ranging from social issues to science, lectures, friendly pub meetups, exhibitions, picnics ...
  • We explore serious issues (but embrace an unashamedly playful side, too) Our maxim: Humour often reaches where lectures don’t!.
  • Open debate - no censoring! We're against censoring in any form for adults. Expect civil, friendly but frank.
  • A peaceful activist platform for those who want it (no pressure). We campaign for separation of State and superstition = Freedom of Expression, End to religious privilege

We're about:

CELEBRATING being able to live our lives from from reasoned evidence, and not from faith, being part of a warm community.

PEACEFULLY CHALLENGING "faith is a virtue" the harmful consequences of faith.

We challenge passive acceptance of religion as a 'norm', to stop religious indoctrination, manipulation and political interference.

We don't advocate 'forcing' atheism on others but we do want people to be ALLOWED to think for themselves. No violence/aggression, obviously, but no need for timidity either - let's be confident, since reason is something to be celebrated!

For the sake of those that are not given a choice, we don't want religions to be allowed to bully & enforce, with State sanctioning, religious exemptions & privilege by law. If you don't agree (or won't consider) that faith/religion is a vice rather than a virtue, then this group won't be right for you. But we are happy to engage in debate, as long as you declare your position and are prepared to answer questions honestly.

WHAT DOES ACTIVIST MEAN? Don't be alarmed ;-) ...we're constructive & peaceful.

We facilitate & support (NOT IMPOSE!) doing *something* - whatever is right for YOU, personally, ...even if that is 'just' silent membership.

Some of our members challenge faith directly e.g at Speakers' corner, on FB, or exchange views on discussion boards/ meetups, signing petitions or lobbying MPs. All efforts are worthy in their own way. We appreciate that each person's circumstances are different, hence you decide what's best for you, or even just socialise :-)

On our busy forums - Share news, views, or have a laugh, have a rant, challenge faith/religion all you want, encourage benevolent memes of rationalistic & atheistic wisdom/ ethics - or even have a 'brain-dump' about anything that's on your mind - it feels good when you're with people who understand!

At our frequent and affable events - a warm welcome awaits you! No pressure to participate or talk unless you want to, just come along and try it out, you'll probably learn something, teach something. (Judging by our reviews - probably feel at home remarkably quickly, & make friends, too!)

All these elements together make us unique, but we encourage support of other secular groups/ organisations to progress reason (obviously that encompasses atheism!). We collaborate with CLHG & SBAS most of all, but also support the remits of AHS, AtheismUK, BHA, CEMB, CFI, GALHA, LBA, LE-MMG, LSEAHS, NSS, SMF, and S.A. (However we do not support censorship - surely an anathema for anyone who values open debate. Similarly, we do not support accommodationism, as it hinders human rights for those billions of children and women in particular, who have religion's ills forced upon them)

Anyone globally can join in the lively and varied discussions, and you're welcome at the meetups if you're visiting London.

Many active campaigns, trying to make a difference in amongst other things - Apostasy, Religion re Equality & Human rights, Allowing free-thought in Education, challenging religion in Politics and TV broadcasting - things that our members tell us they feel strongly about...feel free to suggest other issues for the group to get behind.
