What a great article, thanks Mary, and for the photos! The bigots getting their small children to hold placards - is there no limit too low for them. Grrr.

And enjoy the pics I've just posted!

We had a fabulous time - mocking their bigotry and hypocricy! Theirs was a very staged affair and they looked so serious and scared about this terrible threat to society! But they provided wonderful colour images with their colour-contrasting, mass-produced flags - which afforded some great photos, and which I will be posting soon ...

While I fully support gay marriage, I have to point out that this rally is NOT an anti-gay rally. It's a rally against gay marriage. Of course being anti-gay marriage and anti-gay are related, they are not the same and I think it is unfair to label anti-gay marriage supporters as anti-gay.

:-) Andre is VERY good at analogies that make the point in an incontrovertible fashion! I like the one he said at the meetup last week about religious people saying "you have your truth and I have mine". Andre asked, is it true that dogs meow then? No? ...well so you can't pick your own truth". Brilliant!

Thank you! I was looking forward to today's lunch, but I had a busy morning getting an essay finished. I'm late with essays and I'm having to tackle the problem, since this is my last year at the university. I feel too guilty about the late essays and have been concentrating on getting them done. I kind of lost the notion of time. It would be a bit late for me to go now. I want to go to the meetup on Wednesday. I hope to see you there Mary! Oh, and this Monday too: the Black atheists thing.

As regards slogans for placards for tomorrow's anti anti-Gay marriage (or 'upping the anti' protest, ha ha), a few of us have come up with:

"Two parents who care. Problem?" and
    "Anti gay? Just say!"

    What do you think?

I agree with Alberts views on marriage. I dont see why people need their relationship to be blessed by the state any more than the church are people more conserverttive than in the 60s and 70s when there was a fashion for shacking up? IF MARRIAGE WAS A DRUG IT WOULD BE TAKEN OFF THE MARKET.TOO MANY SIDE EFFECTS.

That said since I reregard marriageke as both a rmistake and a personal choice and I believe in equality I believe that gay couples are entitled to make the same mistake/ choice as their stright counter parts

Well I was going away for the weekend but too much snow for that now. Hopefully it will also keep a few of the nitwits at home, but then again maybe not. If equal marriage can be responsible for bringing down civilisation then I expect they'll want to demonstate against it causing the unseasonal weather too.

I would only go if we were going to protest _against_ the anti-gay rally... Since (this side of the Atlantic) the verb "to protest" when used transitively (ie with a direct object) means you support something, not that you oppose it. (As in "I protest my innocence.")

Oh dear - now I've discovered it's against gay marriage rather than simply anti-gay, I'm confused as to what to do. My equality approach to marriage is that I don't want _anyone_ to get married! I hate the idea of people registering their relationships with the state. Maybe I should join the "other side" with a placard reading "And no straight marriage either" and see what they do to me...

I agree Albert. We're all sheep in some respect, going along with things without really thinking about it and not bothering finding our own alternatives.

Being anti-gay marriage is not being anti-gay, but it is kind of being anti-gay.

    • Georgi L.

French protesters alongside religious groups are organising an Anti-Gay rally in Trafalgar Square of all places, this Sunday 24th March. Anglican Mainstream are urging Christians to turn up to protest "the sterile adult-centred nature of same sex marriage"
Lets show them that *they* are the minority.

LOCATION: The counter protest will take place on the NORTH TERRACE, as the square itself belongs to the GLA and they only authorise one protest at a time MAP:

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
