NON LAAG EVENT- Ancestors Trail weekend with Dawkins, "Wallace in Bristol" Event

  • Aug 24, 2013 · 9:00 AM

This event sold out last year, so we'd advise any LAAGers who want to go, to get in early.

ABOUT THIS EVENT (text from event organisers i.e. this is NOT an in-house event and is listed as per the information of this event's site):

This year, because we are thrilled to have secured Professor Richard Dawkins for a second year, we decided that we should capitalise upon this achievement by hosting our speaker event at a larger venue in Bristol on Sat 24th August, the day before the Trail. To this end we have secured the beautiful Wills Memorial Building ~ the University of Bristol main Hall with 500 seats where Sir David Attenborough spoke to celebrate Darwin150. The Trail is celebrating Wallace100 and by opening our doors to a Bristol audience we hope to raise a considerable sum towards Wallace’s statue to be placed in the Natural History Museum in November.

Schedule and travel arrangements:

FRIDAY 23rd August: For those who wish to travel down to Somerset before the event, I have pre booked several local B&B establishments. Please get in contact for more details.

DAY1;  SATURDAY 24th August: If you can get to to our new Somerset venue – Halsway Manor – by 8am we will provide, at no extra cost, return coach transport to Bristol, returning later that evening to resume proceedings in a similar fashion to last year. Alternatively we can pick you up from Taunton or Bristol Temple Meads rail stations on our way. Bags can be left safely in the coach during the speaker event.

The ‘Wallace in Bristol’ event. 10.50am – 5.30pm:  Speakers  - including Professor Richard Dawkins and music/theatre all day at the University of Bristol’s Wills Memorial Building. There will be an hours break for lunch – not included in the ticket price. There are numerous restaurants nearby the hall.

6pm – Coach return trip to our Somerset Halsway Manor venue.

1:The Ancestor’s Trail’ weekend – including full board all inclusive rooms in Halsway Manor for the weekend Saturday 24th – Monday 26th August (2 nights). Camping at Halsway or local B&B are also available.

Don’t forget – attendance at the Wallace Bristol event (below) is INCLUDED in your payment for an Ancestor’s Trail weekend ticket (equivalent to a £30 ticket – you can upgrade to premium if you wish via our Paypal payment below).

2:Wallace in Bristol’ event Saturday 24th August at the Wills Memorial Building seating 500+ in this fantastic Gothic venue. The Great Hall is long and rather narrow, and consequently we decided it would be fairest to price the seats according to the view they offer.
