EXTERNAL EVENT - Sunday Atheist Assembly Social

From Roger Cawkwell:

"The Sunday Assembly (which has been visited by various LAAGers with mixed responses) has announced a "Social" on Wednesday the 3rd of July. Members may want to go along either to support or, for those for whom the SA did not quite hit the spot, to make suggestions of one kind or another to the organisers. I'm just a little bit on the inside now, being a member of the SA band (did you see what I did there?)"

As Roger says, there have been a number of you who have enjoyed the S.A, and some who've had issues with the concept (or its execution). One claimed the S.A were blocking comments on their forum. I would be very surprised if this were the case (but would be outraged if it were!), and asked this person to check with Sanderson that it wasn't just a technical glitch. Unfortunately that person has left LAAG, I suppose in a huff for some reason connected with this. (The discussion in posted here: http://www.meetup.com/London-At...).

Anyway, in the interests of fairness I would suggest those of us who do have issues, go along to this and try and discuss with Sanderson and co, in a supportive and constructive manner. What do you think?

Well I shall be blowing my own trumpet at that meeting!

Hi Paul, thanks for your input. I also support the S.A but I think there are some valid reasons for some atheists being annoyed by some of Sanderson's (perhaps just unthought-out rather than intentionally self-serving) comments - this includes me. He needs to learn to be a bit more aware of others efforts and not dismiss their constructive comments just because HE evidently thinks atheism can just be about dropping the belief but praising and keeping the rest of religious practices. He might think blind tradition is good ( for example), I most certainly do not. (It's great to show atheism in a positive light for a change (and LAAG is also about 'peacefully promoting & celebrating reason) - there is even a place and even need for church type 'happy clappy' but how about ALSO actually trying to change having unelected bishops in the house of Lords, Faith schools or FGM eh?! ...or at least not putting down the efforts of those who are bothering to do so.

Although I wasn't feeling well, I went anyway - got to the door, looked around inside - just too noisy for anything but a shouted conversation, so I came home - I don't think it was just my fragile condition, I won't be going back there.

Don't blame you Roger. Even the Pendrel's Oak with the CLHGers gets so I can only lipread. I would have hated it. Almost glad I needed to work late.

I wouldn't put your email address on a website in machine-readable form Helen, unless you enjoy reading advice on how to enlarge your penis! Spammers used automatic programs to scan web pages for email addresses to add to their target lists. The usual workaround is to put in spaces, use "at" and "dot" instead of @ and . etc - though it's just a matter of time till this is no longer enough I imagine.

Don't know why Meetup keeps timing me out of late, just me or anyone else?
End of my last comment should have read, more communication and coordination with other groups would be nice. He should have my details but if he or you need them

Sadly Sanderson has chosen Wed 3rd July and the first Wednesday of the month is the well established regular social for the CLHG. It is a shame as otherwise some of our members would have liked to attend. Please pass on to Sanderson more coordination wi
