LAAG regular Last-Sunday-Of the Month SOCIAL - THEME AUTUMN FEAST

UPDATE: Weather for sunday means we'll be at the Royal George rather than outside (Ginny)

THEME: Bacchanalian feast! (belated Autumn Equinox celebration)

WEAR: Togas or Autumn colours (not compulsory of course)

BRING: If you would like to - Make or buy a small gift to exchange ( food would be most appropriate) 'secret sagan' !

EAT, DRINK & BE MERRY : The Royal George does decent enough food so all we have to do is make our own merriness!

Travel info:

http://www.tfl.gov.uk/assets/emails/worksandclosures/Planned_closure_WE_30_SEPT_A4.pdf

If you're up for it we could ask (warn!) the pub beforehand and change there into togas to avoid weird looks on the tube. biggrin For those not wishing to toga-up, you could wear autumn colours if you like- red, orange, brown, purple, orange. Not 'compulsory' of course but might help set the scene and make it feel like a proper celebrationlaughing

The  'secret santa/sagan' type thing of gift exchange is where we all make or buy a small gift, and then draw names to exchange gifts with another on the day. As it's autumn, ...harvest and all that gifts of food would seem appropriate - nuts, jams, cakes , pickles, preserves, honey ...that kind of thing ...

October Social will be some kind of event - open to suggestions...bowling perhaps?

Sorry I've been out of touch for a while - comprehensive computer crash took me off internet at home for a while plus I've also started rehearsals on Wednesdays which rather puts the spoke into the wheel of mid-week meetings - but at least I'm playing cello (struggling to) with a symphony orchestra. Jo Hamilton was great - a very talented and very unassuming lady.

Nice to have you back Roger :-) Bloody computer problems have been rife ...me too! And other people have had the same in the last couple of weeks. Looking forward to hearing your cello sometime...do let us know if an opportunity comes up!

Hi Ginny, Cello is not my main instrument (it's about 8 or 9 down the list - & that's counting the 5 different saxes I play as only one...) but I will be taking part in a couple of concerts in the next few weeks:

      A Halloween/Morricone special:
      http://www.richmix.or...
though rather miffed that the regular band line-up has been advertised although I'm deputising for the wind player

And shortly after, Lambeth Wind Orchestra (in which I play horn) is premiering an arrangement of mine in what should be an amazing concert (even if it is in South London...)

Hi Roger, yes I did wonder if this event would suit you. Sorry you didn't enjoy it but it was nice to see you anyway! As it's a social then people are naturally going to have bantering conversations rather than a more sedate one by one round-table discussion, which is what I think you prefer. As you said, this is more possible at the midweek meetups so hopefully you'll enjoy that more. How was your evening concert?

Hi Roger, yes I think one of the great things about the social is that you can talk to individuals and I certainly enjoyed the chance to have a proper conversation with you which is not so easily done at the discussion meetups :-)

I agree Adrian. That's why I suggested we go downstairs after the midweek meetup, and chat in the more socially suitable environment of the main bar. But people wanted to stay upstairs and continue the discussion, which is fine but that means the only real social time is the end of month social event like this one. For that reason I wouldn't want to change the format of this event as I think most people do want this.

I very much enjoyed our first Celebration event. It was a bit like a bounty of nature celebration. People got into the spirit with wearing autumn colours and some splendid togas by Rose, Lorna Clive and Joanne! We had a secret-sagan small gift exchange & hugs were plentiful too :-) A few stayed till pub closing, as usual. Thanks to Roger for the nibbles!

Glad to be there but rather put off by the noise - a lot of people shouted competitively over each other and rarely was any statement allowed to come to a natural end without being interrupted. Much like a BBC interview in fact. Surely we can do better. I do prefer the slightly more organised mid-month meetings.

As always a genial fun meetup. Nice to see everyone there :-)

Always a pleasure guys, and nice to meet one or two people I hadn't actually met before.

People dressed all paganish - I wish I'd brought my bedsheets and nicked the weeds from the front lawn too.

The Royal George? Is that the one near Tottenham Court Road Tube?

    September 27, 2012

    • Adrian

That's right. There is a photo album with photos of the venue and a map to get there - worth a look for anyone who hasn't been as the CrossRail building site has made the area quite different to how it used to be!

Yes, Eric (may his yumminess be eternal - lol lol). I find Bill a bit too 'nice and old fashioned polite' for my taste. Give me a bloodthirsty vampire viking anyday!!!!

LOL! Eric is way more yummy but I wouldn't kick either of them out of bed to be honest ;)
I don't know how far you have got in True Blood but Bill isn't really polite and old fashioned any more.

"WEAR: Togas or Autumn colours" Toga, toga, toga! Will it be as debauched as the "Animal House" toga party? ;)

    September 20, 2012

    • Georgi L.

Yep...that'll be tricky. Of course whenever you see it on tv they seem to have more of the toga off than on!

I wish you could embed videos here. I was looking earlier on YouTube. Check out Gninja86's "How to make a toga with a bed sheet". It's easy.

Sorry I wasn't at the last picnic - I couldn't find you guys! I checked where the location was beforehand, but I wandered up and down Rotten Row... and not a sign of you.

We do have a meetup mobile so do make a note of the number next time and if you can't find us give us a call!

Gordon Bennett, these collapsed convos. Yes Ginny had already said about the meetup mobi. Oh well bollocks lol

At the last picnic, poor Alastair got heat stroke, Lorna had to rescue her daughter, and Ren was thwarted by Tom's last minute job assignment! Also we had some others like Roger, Jay and Frances who had to work - bah! So Hopefully the weather will allow us all to meet up and have some laughs outside again, and with our lovely new people as well - some of whom we met yesterday at the meetup :-)
