COMPULSORY Q (no membership if not answered): Pls describe yr position on religion/faith e.g. atheist, naturalist, 'agnostic', religious doubter, religious, OR any description that best describes you. (Not to label you, just to know group make-up)

atheist & humanist

COMPULSORY Q: Why do you want to join? (if faith/religion bothers you, what aspects in particular? (Helps us tailor activities to your concerns (within our remit of "peacefully promote reason/atheism")). Pls write as much or as little as you like.

I want to be more confident discussing atheism and talk to others like me. I want to be able to express my view point and remain calm and collected in debates (religious arguments can be quite infuriating) But my main reason would be to speak to other atheists, the online community is great but it would be great to be able to speak to others in person. Maybe even come up with new ideas. What bothers me most about religion : Wow, there are so many things. Indoctrination of children, arguing among religions cockily claiming their God is the right one , religious people saying i am agnostic to give themselves hope that they are right (even though it is a position of knowledge not faith), the picking and choosing, calling themselves peaceful, using Hitler and Stalin as arguments against atheist. But i guess most of all its the use of religious texts to push and "justify" their hateful bigoted opinions on everyone else.

Where did you hear about us?

i searched for you on meetup.

(You're welcome as a social or even a silent member, & there's absolutely no pressure - but would you want to be involved (at some stage) in actively challenging faith in any way? Petitions, leafleting etc, or something else?

I think, once i am more confident and able to articulate my points i would.

If so, what kind of issues are most emotive for you? What kind of activism do you prefer - humourous/cheeky or more direct? Any other ideas you'd like to share at the moment?

I prefer humorous/cheeky activism (whether or not i can do it is another question) but i believe sometimes it is necessary to be more direct. It varies really, for those questioning faith and for other atheists comedy its great but for religious folks on some occasions it may turn them off of the atheist community.

Introduction
