COMPULSORY Q (no membership if not answered): Pls describe yr position on religion/faith e.g. atheist, naturalist, 'agnostic', religious doubter, religious, OR any description that best describes you. (Not to label you, just to know group make-up)

Atheist anti-theist. (Ex-catholic, but only had it as culture - never found faith, despite many years wasted trying.)

COMPULSORY Q: Why do you want to join? (if faith/religion bothers you, what aspects in particular? (Helps us tailor activities to your concerns (within our remit of "peacefully promote reason/atheism")). Pls write as much or as little as you like.

Irrationality, hypocrisy, immorality. Blinding people to the true wonders of the universe. And wasting big chunks of people's single shot at existence when they could be doing something less pointless instead.

Where did you hear about us?

I prayed for guidance.

(You're welcome as a social or even a silent member, & there's absolutely no pressure - but would you want to be involved (at some stage) in actively challenging faith in any way? Petitions, leafleting etc, or something else?

not at the moment - over-comitted to campaigns already; just hoping to find some rational people to socialise with for now.

If so, what kind of issues are most emotive for you? What kind of activism do you prefer - humourous/cheeky or more direct? Any other ideas you'd like to share at the moment?

Creationism, religious schools, everything else... I'm in favor of evidence-based action: do what psychology experiments suggest might be most effective. Or failing that, just use humour or mockery to insert uncertainty rather than trying to reason with an irrational person - whether it works or not, it's much quicker, less stressful and more fun!

What Alex D is saying about this Meetup Group

Friendly, diverse and unusually rational sample of the species Homo sapiens; this zoologist finds them worthy of further study.
