COMPULSORY Q (no membership if not answered): Pls describe yr position on religion/faith e.g. atheist, naturalist, 'agnostic', religious doubter, religious, OR any description that best describes you. (Not to label you, just to know group make-up)

Atheist and anti-theist.

COMPULSORY Q: Why do you want to join? (if faith/religion bothers you, what aspects in particular? (Helps us tailor activities to your concerns (within our remit of "peacefully promote reason/atheism")). Pls write as much or as little as you like.

What bothers me most about religion is the harm it causes. I quote Greta Christina: "Here is why religion is uniquely capable of causing harm. Religion is a belief in invisible beings, inaudible voices, intangible entities, undetectable forces and events and judgements that happen after we die. It therefore has no reality check. It is therefore uniquely armoured against criticism, against questioning and against self correction."

Where did you hear about us?

Shortly after I invited people to the pub to talk about atheism!

(You're welcome to be a social or even a silent member, & there's absolutely no pressure) - but would you like to be involved in actively challenging faith yourself in any way? Petitions, leafleting etc, or something else?

No, I tend to just politely disagree with people who have a belief system based on anything supernatural. When I am confronted by religious individuals, I use the opportunity to practice my critical thinking skills.

If so, what kind of issues are most emotive for you? What kind of activism do you prefer - humourous/cheeky or more direct? Any other ideas you'd like to share at the moment?

I do ask people why they believe in the existence of a god. I also question them on why they consider cruel and harmful laws in their holy book are worthy of respect.

Introduction

Thirteen point seven billion years ago, there was an enormous big bang! Since then, things have calmed down a lot and since my ancestors evolved from ape-like creatures, life has improved considerably. I now live in London, which is nice.
