It's very hard to beat Madame Bovary although Conrad's The Secret Agent is a close second for entirely different kicks. Then the last book was the Stieg Larsson Millenium trilogy and that was a very captivating introduction to an entirely new genre for me.
Was a member of a book club some years ago and thoroughly enjoyed the experience - when the book was 'good'. Found the going tough with some books considered 'great' by others e.g. The Time Traveller's Wife, had me screaming for rescue after only two chapters:)
Hi, I enjoy a good read and cycle through periods of almost complete immersion in books and starkly fallow times. Just now emerging from a few months of the latter and looking forward to joining the group.
