Mission 13 - Up in the Air & London Camera Club first anniversary drink meet up!

Ok folks.. new mission!

Costs - £2.50 to be paid via online system!

Your mission should you wish to accept it is to put your dancing shoes on and dance away the blues!

The location is the Greenwich and Docklands International Festival! This is a huge festival held late June so l thought it would be great to capture some of the acrobatic dancing artist. Please allow plenty of time to get their and expect huge crowds!

A taster from last year

Also, it's the groups first anniversary so if your new to the group or one of the many regulars, come along and meet us all. Looking forward to seeing everyone who has managed to turn up at an event and made this group into one of the most successful popular camera, photography groups in London!

What exactly does this event hold for a photographer. Well this mission l would like everyone to try and practise on their timing! The actual timing of a shot is critical! I'm looking for shots of people in the air! See the link of one of my shots.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/54220346@N03/8401228829/

I'm going to plan an itinerary for the shoot.

Lens

I think your going to need some sort of zoom lens for this one.. all depends on how close you can get to the action and how many people there is around. So zoom in close!

Camera settings

Shutter speed

Something in the region of 1/250th to 1/1000th. This should freeze frame just about anything that moves to complete still! If your really skilled at photography then you can try motion tracking and shift to a slower shutter speed. Speak to me on the day if you want to try this.

Aperture

I would suggest as wide as possible. Hence a low F number. Whatever it is your using just set the lens to the lowest F setting F2.8 - 4.5?

ISO

Once you have set your shutter speed and Aperture. Then last thing to test and try out is ISO. Start at around ISO 200 and maybe shift up to ISO 800. Shutter speed is the dominate factor in this session.

If it's a bright sunny day l'll try and advise on shutter appropriately.

For those tempting to do a silhouette shot if, it's at all possible, then you need the Sun directly in front of you! Under no circumstances look at the Sun directly via a Zoom lens (not unless your wanting to go blind that is)

Single task

Capture 2 people in the air!

    sorry to piggy-bag here Wei,
But if anyone is interested to continue their GDIF experience, there is a late night event happening at Woolwich that includes some big performances, fireworks and live music.

Myself, Elena and Zafar will be heading there if anyone else wants to join us on Friday night. We'll probably meet at Woolwich Arsenal DLR station at about 9:45

As always Wei makes photography interesting and fun. The wind, dark skies made it difficult but that is what made it more interesting learning new technics to overcome the elements.

Hi everyone... some interesting photos have been taken.. could l ask everyone to upload only photos which represent the theme 'up in the air' (i.e. someone has to be in the air) and not just general random shots. Much appreciated.

Hi everybody hope you all have fun today... many thanks for everyone who did manage to make it for the anniversary of the club. Weather was a bit dull but as a photographer that sometimes goes in our favour.. hence less 'crowdy' at the event! You should of definitely got someone up in the air and maybe a beach whale stranded on grass?? If you haven't then we need to work on your timing a bit more :-)

Yet again I really enjoyed myself, it's becoming a habit when Wei organises events.
GDIF actually got better from start to finish for me. I was shocked to see I ended up with 1097 photo's (not including the bunch I deleted to free up space), think I was trigger happy. Always nice to meet everyone again.

Hi everyone... l've updated the event description and have added an act list for the meet up. These are just my suggestions for capturing people up in the air! You should definitely get someone up in the air with 'ANY DAY' ... this guy uses a trampoline. See you all there.

ps. A gentle reminder to all those who have accepted and haven't yet paid online for this event to do so. Much appreciated and many thanks for your cooperation and support.

    All the best

Wei can't make it because I am at Ascot Races on the Saturday. Different kind of photo opportunity there! Will see you at the next meetup. I'll see if I can get some motion shots of the horses.
