Yes this is the rule of thirds! In fact you have many axis points on this shot! The couple sitting is the strongest point of interest. My eyes are led straight to them. The vertical sign board is the 2nd axis. The chap standing in the middle.. allows the eyes to shift from one axis point to another but you don't really need him in the shot since the guy sitting is looking to the right and you kinda follow his view. What's interesting is the girl sitting and the guy standing are looking to the left, kinda resists you from looking right? I like this! It tells a story!

Thanks Wei! Really helps as I'm still a beginner with all this...

I like this a lot. Nicely positioned shot with the axis points mentioned by Wei and the smaller groups of composition against the larger one. The barrel with the stools is one plane; the sign board, another; the guy in the doorway with the cafe behind him is a third; and the date with the averted gazes, a fourth. So many stories and dimensions in one picture!

That heavy barrel restores the left-right balance

Thank you! Again, this photo was taken with personal judgement without too much knowledge on the technical side of photographs. I saw the couple sitting outside the cafe and immediately was captivated by them. I remember Wei talking about photos telling a story and quickly took it before they discovered...
