What is your connection to the field of careers/employability work?

That I am the Employability & Placements Officer within the School of Architecture, Computing & Engineering (ACE) at the University of East London (UEL). In my role, I have the responsibility to lead, create and develop activities to develop, support and improve the employability skills and entrepreneurial ambitions of ACE students, in line with UEL policy. This includes improving significantly the graduate employment prospects. In furtherance of that task to enhance, internally and externally, the School’s profile and reputation amongst employers, stake-holders, alumni and other target and media groups.

What do you hope to gain from, or offer to, this group?

I would like to investigate the challenges/obstacles people in a similar role have faced. I am very keen to find out information to assist with my own development and career within career/employability work. This is my first role within employability and I find it so rewarding to help others and see students grow into professionals. I would like to know how far I can take it really and build a network of individuals I may use for support.

Introduction

As an Employability & Placements Officer, I find it very lonely not being part of a central team (which has its benefits). I would like to meet others in a similar role and find out what it is they enjoy about career development and employability.

What MARK S. is saying about this Meetup Group

AMAZING! As mentioned earlier, I am from an Employability background who is interested in Careers Coaching/Guidance. I feel the forum allows me to learn from Careers Coaching/Guidance professionals (taking note of their experience, knowledge and skills) who are infuencing and inspiring my own personal development. I have just scratched the surface and I am happy that this forum allows me to learn informally, in a relaxed environment. I am looking forward to see how the group develops.
