The Wizard of Oz (1939) @ BFI Southbank

As Disney is getting ready to release its prequel, here's your chance to watch the original Wizard of Oz on the BFI's big screen and "in a stunning digital restoration"!

An extreme weather event transports Dorothy Gale from her monochrome Kansas farm to a Technicolor dreamworld beyond the rainbow, beginning one of the greatest fantasy adventures ever to light up the screen. Witches’ potions, ruby slippers and MGM’s studio wizardry aside, it’s 16-year-old Judy Garland’s spellbinding screen presence, and Dorothy’s unquestionable power to inspire love and self-belief in the broken and downcast, that create the real enchantment.

According to Wikipedia, "The film was named the most-watched motion picture in history by the Library of Congress, is often ranked among the Top 10 Best Movies of All Time in various critics' and popular polls, and is the source of many memorable quotes referenced in modern popular culture.

It is a good idea to buy your ticket in advance (click here). Make sure to select the right screening (Mar 10, 6:10pm). Do share your seat number so we can sit next to each other.

For the truly obsessed, the BFI is showing a series of other "Oz" films dating back as far as 1925. Click here for details.

Hi all, let's meet up from 5:45. I will be standing near the ticket desk, holding a meetup sign. If you're lost, call or text me at 075-98940303.

There's still plenty of tickets left, so no need to pre-book - unless you want to make sure to sit next to the group.

We'll go for a drink nearby after the film.

    Looking froward to seeing you!

the only shop is the bfi shop which is great 4 browsing. going on past experience, a slightly dubious, shifty looking group gathered near the ticket office will almost certainly be the MU grp.....

the code phrase is 'it's unseasonably mild weather, innit?' the correct answer will be 'r u trying 2 pick me up?

if all else fails, look 4 a white puppy & text me on 07725 579 250.
