2001: A Space Odyssey @ Prince Charles

Released in 1968 (the year before the first moon landing!), Stanley Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey" is one of the undisputed classics of science fiction films. It is also one of the most scientifically accurate ones – e.g. there is no gravity in space, and you can't hear the explosions.

The film had a huge impact on other directors – George Lucas said: "Stanley Kubrick made the ultimate science fiction movie, and it is going to be very hard for someone to come along and make a better movie, as far as I'm concerned."

Most of all, the film is visually stunning and comes with a great soundtrack of classical music – definitely worth watching on a big screen!

We tried this meetup last year, and the film actually sold out, so loads of people (including myself) ended up at the Prince Charles without tickets... This may not happen again, but do consider booking ahead to be on the safe side. Tickets are £6.50 (click here).

The film starts at 8:45 and we will meet for a drink from 7:30 PM in The Imperial pub, just around the corner in Leicester Street (next to M&M's World). Look out for the meetup sign!

The Prince Charles Cinema is the only non subsidised repertory cinema in the UK, and a little gem in the Leicester Square area. Quentin Tarantino has said, "For lovers of quality films, this is Mecca." It's in Leicester Place, the tiny street to the left of Häagen-Dasz.

Really wanted to come along to this but I'm pretty tied up at work at the moment - have fun!

Apologies, I managed to RSVP when my intention was merely to join the group. I would love to see Space Odyssey but alas I have another engagement. I hope you will schedule some similar sci-fi classics at the PCC soon...?
