Film Description ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Emma Thompson, Colin Farrell, Paul Giamatti, Rachel Griffiths, Tom Hanks, Jason Schwartzman, Ruth Wilson

John Lee Hancock

Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson star in the funny and heart-warming true story behind Disney's 'Mary Poppins'. Movie titan Walt Disney (Tom Hanks) promises his children that he will make a film version of their favourite book. But he overlooks one crucial factor - the wishes of the author! The book is 'Mary Poppins' and its author is prim Englishwoman P.L. Travers (Emma Thompson). Walt whisks to her to Los Angeles for a full charm offensive aimed at securing the movie rights. But the prickly Travers pronounces herself singularly unimpressed by his "silly cartoons" and accuses him of misunderstanding her very personal novel. He quickly realises that if he's ever to get his film made, he will have to learn a great deal more about the author's background. From John Lee Hancock, writer and director of the Oscar-winning 'The Blind Side', this is the little-known true story of the making of a timeless classic.

Tickets ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

If you have a Cineworld Unlimited card you need to show this at the box office to collect a free ticket. Otherwise please just buy your own ticket in the normal way (if you book online in advance you may be able to get a 10% discount, eg £11.70 instead of £13). Please note extra charge for 3D movies and also for 3D glasses. If you own them please bring them with you. Details of charges on website below.

London Cinema Meetup hosts a lot of events at Cineworld cinemas (usually for seeing the latest releases, most commonly in the West End). If you like watching films regularly (more than once a month) it might be cheaper to buy a Cineworld Unlimited card for £18.90 a month - this allows you to watch as many films as you like at Cineworld cinemas (including the ones we normally use in the West End, in Shaftesbury Avenue or in Haymarket). It also gives you a 10% discount off food and drink bought in the cinemas, and some local discount offers too. There is a cheaper version of the card for £15.90, but this is not valid for the Cineworld cinemas in the West End. Currently there is an offer of getting 'one free month' if you sign up using the promotion code below:

This code has to be entered in the payments section under "promotions".
Please check terms and conditions. To obtain a card you can use this website (you will need a digital photo of your face, which will appear on the card to identify you):
