Generally, thoughtful and engrossing dramas; arty is fine, but *really* arty films to the point of pretentiousness aren't my favourite. Decent blockbusters too (Nolan, obviously). Particular fan of the crime genre and films about plight of one sort or another. Really, I like anything that is well-excecuted and made with care.
A few recent (to me) highlights are Brighton Rock (1947), Animal Kingdom, The Descendents, Kick-Ass, Wreckers, Snowtown and Incendies. I couldn't stand Hugo, so I know that may be a sticking point for some...
Watch films. Talk about them. Get to know other people who also enjoy films (it can be a pretty solitary activity).
Hi! I've always enjoyed films, but have stepped up my watching of them over the last couple of years. Most of my film-watching gets done at the independent London cinemas (we're spoiled) and at home - good quality experience is important!
