Star Wars: Edge of the Empire RPG Beta - Try it out on a Tuesday night!

Hi all

I have got a copy of the beta for the Star Wars RPG by Fantasy Flight and wondered if anyone would be interested in giving it a go.

It is a narrative dice system, akin to the Warhammer Fantasy RPG also made by Fantasy Flight, rather than a d20 system and having read it though, it looks like a really good way to play a Star Wars game, allowing for a lot more cinematic action than a d20 system, which almost invariably ends up a bit tactical.

The setting is very specifically in the Outer Rim underworld during the height of Imperial rule. The player characters options reflect this - you couldn't be playing a soldier, but you could be playing a hired gun, kicked out of the military.

Here are some of the highlights of the system:

  • Obligation system - each character has some kind of obligation, or obligations that affect their character, a debt, for example. If they do not deal with their obligations in the game, they will gain notoriety and it will begin to affect the group. Conversely, there will be times when you can solve a big problem... at the cost of taking on new obligations.
  • Level free progression - Characters gain XP to buy new abilities, but there is no levelling mechanic, giving a very wide range of character choices.
  • This is probably the best Star Wars setting - who didn't want to be Han Solo?

I've got a group together for one session already, but if people want to give this a try I will organise additional sessions.

Tuesday November 6th [4/4]
Tuesday November 13th [Available]
Tuesday November 20th [Available]
