June Meetup

Hi folks, this meetup will take place on Wednesday 4th June at 93 Feet East on Brick Lane. Here is the agenda;

• [18:40] Andrew Metcalfe, Senior Engineering Manager at OpenTable talking about The Friday Before Christmas.

• [19:20] Alex Brasetvik, Co-Founder and Senior Software Engineer at Found AS, talking about ElasticSearch in Production.

• [20:00] Break

• [20:10] Alex Bordei, Techie Product Manager at bigstep.com, talking about ElasticSearch performance on Bare Metal Cloud.

• [20:50] Q&A with Clinton Gormley and Mark Harwood from ElasticSearch.

• [21:10] Pizza/drinks

The talks will start at 18:30, followed by pizza & drinks. Since the venue is a bar, we can stick around for more drinks after the talks have finished.

The nearest tube stations are Aldgate East and Liverpool Street.

If anyone's interested in giving a talk at a future meetup, I'd love to hear from you. You can contact me on the meetup site, or on twitter: @YannCluchey. Thanks!

    Hi everyone,

Just wanted to let you know, especially the folks that couldn't attend, that Alex will be doing a webcast with O'Reilly Chief Data Scientist Ben Lorica, on Getting the most out of your NoSQL DB. We'll be touching on our work with Elasticsearch as well, but we'll also talk about tests with Impala and Couchbase. If you're interested, registration is open and free. Thanks for attending, everyone!

Our presentation, “Best practices for scaling Elasticsearch in the cloud”, can be found here: http://www.slideshare.net/bigstep-infrastructure/bigstep-partners-elasticsearch-scaling-benchmarks

We’ll be sharing more stuff like this in the next few weeks so a good way to find out about it would be to follow us on Twitter - @BigstepInc and @alexandrubordei

If you have any questions about our benchmarking of Elasticsearch, just drop me an email at [masked]. If anyone has worked at doing their own benchmarks, I’d be very interested in comparing results, so don’t hesitate to reach out.

Great meetup; I only attended to see if Clinton was as crazy as he appears in his Github avatar.

...I'm really still not too sure, but I came away with a bunch of expert knowledge and a belly full of pizza, thanks ES!

    Hi folks,

    Greetings from Amsterdam!
I wish that I could join you for the meetup at 93 Feet East tonight, but unfortunately I can't.

Many thanks to Andrew Metcalfe, Alex Brasetvik and Alex Bordei for speaking and to Clinton and Mark for giving a Q&A session.

If folks would let me know if they have photos or video to share, I would be grateful. You can just upload them to the meetup group or email them to me, whatever works best for you. If I have your permission to use these resources, we will look at featuring them in our weekly round up blog post, This Week in Elasticsearch. Here's a recent sample in case you are interested: http://www.elasticsearch.org/blog/2014-05-28-this-week-in-elasticsearch/

Have a wonderful meetup! I will join you folks in person sooner rather than later.

Does anyone know if the talk is taking place in and around where drinks are being served or whether it is in an another room but in the same vicinity. That would be much appreciated, as this is for religious reasons and I could also make a better decision to whether i should release my rsvp's now or not. I don't want to go there only to realise i can't partake and having wasted someone's seat. Thank you very much. :)

Hi Abdisamad, food and snacks will be served in a room next to the presentation room. The two rooms are separated but within the same building.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
