Russia's Surveillance State (Lecture + Q&A)

Join us for a discussion about the emerging surveillance state in Russia: http://www.frontlineclub.com/russias-surveillance-state/

In the digital age as we see more protests on the streets of Moscow and elsewhere the FSB (the successor to the KGB) are developing new surveillance technologies.

Towards the end of last year as debate about the draft Communications Data Bill was raging in the UK, in Russia advanced internet-censorship and monitoring technologies were introduced. In reaction to this, Privacy InternationalAgentura.Ru, the Russian secret services watchdog, and Citizen Lab have joined forces to launch a new project entitled Russia’s Surveillance State.

We will be joined by those involved in this new project and other experts to discuss the surveillance practices in Russia and how they are developing.

Speakers:

Tickets:

£12.50 via the Frontline Club: http://frontlineclub.bookinglive.com/home/events-and-screenings/russia-s-surveillance-state/

Please remember that you will only be able to join if you are able to buy a ticket.

I was surprised that the reporters shared what they did. And as I looked up to wherever I thought the cameras might be, I wondered if someone somewhere was monitoring them. I think it's fine that they registered concern about libel laws, it gives them more credibility in helping to distinguish speculation from fact.

Good talk but got the feeling the speakers were being careful not to say too much as it was on the record, especially coy about commenting on how much of this goes on in the UK

After the lecture and Q&A, please join us in the bar on the 1st level (i.e. the entrance is just to the right of the desk where your name was ticked off when you entered through the stairs). See you there

For those of you who have never been to Frontline Club, find the door to the left of the Frontline Club restaurant on the street level. Walk up the stairs and you'll find a desk where they tick off your name against a reservation list. Continue walking up the stairs and you'll find the lecture hall. If you do not recognise anyone from group then just stay around the entrance to the lecture hall. I'll meet you there between 6:45 and 6:55 before we take our seats.

it was not posted because I was on leave and it is a new arrangement with the Frontline Club, that Hans did not know about. He will now check if giving a refund to those who booked is possible. We know that it should have been posted at the time the event was announced, but a little less moaning a a bit more appreciation is always welcome.

After speaking direct to Frontline Club, they have confirmed that they cannot refund £2.50 on paid bookings. However, the new discount code 'leuc0513' is valid for all new bookings.
