Machiavelli - Talk with Lucio Vallari

Lucio Villari, professor of contemporary history at the Universita' di Roma Tre, will be discussing his latest book, Machiavelli, an Italian of the Renaissance, with writer and publisher Alessandro Gallenzi.

Lucio Vallari has published books and essays on many aspects of the history of the 17th-20th centuries, including Niccoló Machiavelli (2000), for which he received the Premio Estense in 2001, and Bella e perduta: l'Italia del Risorgimento (2009), for which he won the Premio Benedetto Croce in 2011.

Alessandro Gallenzi, aside from being founder and publisher of Hesperus Press, Alma Books and Oneworld Classics, is also a writer, journalist, translator, poet and writer of comedy. This year he won the prestigious Independent Publisher of the Year award.

The institute have told me the discussion will be in English even though the description is in Italian.

This event is free but you need to book here to put yourself on the attendee list. The Institute will send you a booking email in which you must click the link to be added to the list.

Afterwards we will discuss the talk over a drink nearby.

The evening was most enjoyable and a very illuminating lecture. But could not find the meetup group on that occasion, hope to another time.

I think the talk was very interesting and Lucio Villari gave a new, perhaps unexpected, view of Machiavelli and his time. And now everyone knows that the famous sentence 'Il fine giustifica i mezzi' was not said by him! Thanks also to the organizer and all the nice people met there.

Liam, it was the perfect night to cheer one up after a long week. Enjoyed meeting everyone - + the aperitif - a lot.

A stimulating wide-ranging discussion of Machiavelli. It was really great to meet some new faces and regular ones afterwards over the aperitivi. I really enjoyed the conversation, thanks everyone for coming, and hope to see you again.

My first event. Great talk and nice reception upstairs afterwards. Managed to bump into 3 other Meet Up attendees but not easy to find the group. Will definitely attend this Meet up again and discovered there are lots of great talks coming up at Italian Institute on Fridays so will probably make thus a regular thing.

Sorry David, that's a shame. There was a glitch with the date when the event went online. The correct date is 29 Nov.
