Sunday Hike to Broxbourne Woods - 10 Miles (16km)

An invite for an invigorating 10 mile hike from Broxbourne to Hertford through this fabulous patchwork of woodlands just north of London.  Broxbourne Woods is only 10 miles or so from and similar in many respects to the much more well known Epping Forest, but is far less visited and thus much more peaceful.

These woods are local to me, so I have devised a route from personal experience to take in some of the highlights, including unmapped single track detours into the heart of the forests, views over the surrounding rolling countryside, boardwalks, a sculpture trail, coal posts and perhaps even a glimpse of a big cat!

Travel there by train: meet me BEFORE 09:00 by the main ticket office at Liverpool Street mainline station to sort out tickets. Our train departs from platform 4, at 09:20 and arrives in Broxbourne at 09:54.  We will return direct from Hertford at the end of he hike.  The total cost, including the return train fare, is £10.

If coming by car, there is a car park at Broxbourne station with a nominal charge - to return there at the end of the hike, you can join us on the train from Hertford.

The tracks are reasonably surfaced in the main, but there are some moderately steep hills and expect some slippery paths, mud and puddles at this time of year - sturdy walking boots / shoes with good grip and warm, waterproof clothing are essential.

We will stop briefly at a pub for a drink and toilets en route, but due to the limited daylight at this time of the year, we will not have a pub lunch there.  Please bring trail snacks with you to keep you going!  There will, however, be the traditional debrief pub stop at the end of the hike in the attractive market town of Hertford at around 16:30, where food can also be obtained.  It is anticipated that we will be back at Liverpool Street before 19:30.

The pace will be sociable and the terrain only gently undulating, but a reasonable level of fitness is required to enjoy the trip.

Well done to the intrepid group who braved the weather forecasts to come on a most enjoyable Winter woodland walk. The muddy conditions provided for an extra level of lower body workout too! Thanks in particular to Susana for backmarking and the wonderful Spanish baby talk.

Hike was great but the weather spoilt it a little as it was very treacherous for my liking.

WEATHER UPDATE. It is predicted to be breezy, but generally dry and mild tomorrow, so great conditions for our hike. I has been unusually wet recently though, so be prepared for the fun of puddles and slippery paths in places.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.

Henry, started Reno Motorcycle Riders
