European Cross-Cultural Chit-Chat - Spring and Dating Rituals

Mid-March we hopefully have weathered the last of these annoying winter storms/showers and spring is finally near - and with spring approaching, dating once more becomes important.

So the starter for our next Cross-Cultural Chit-Chat will be the usual confusion between males and females which might be further complicated by the international gap and different cultural habits. Is there some hidden language which might confuse us when we date someone from another nation? What are the pitfalls? Are there any special rituals, like for example Valentine's Day ("celebrated" differently from country to country) or other particular days and customs?

You needn't be an expert on Hofstede or Trompenars or however those cross-cultural experts are called. Just share your observations and experiences about what you think your nation is doing different than others. Is it a different communication style, a different attitude towards the environment, towards food or whatever? What do you think distinguishes one European nation from the other? What prejudices do you face and which ones do you find confirmed, what do you like about other cultures? Do you observe any special language issues?

So come along on Wednesday, 12 March 2014 at 6pm to the famous and well known Penderel's Oak for a European Cross-Cultural Chit-Chat over a pint or two. I'm looking forward to seeing you there.

Please only RSVP if you are certain that you can join us or amend your RSVP in time. This gives people on the waitlist the chance to join too and accurate numbers help with the reservation at the pub. Our "no show" policy applies to this as well as every other event in the Club.

Apologies for leaving the hardcore at 9ish, but I'm afraid the stupid cold took its toll and couldn't be calmed down anymore with wine and interesting discussions....

Hi guys, spring is finally springing and we have a waitlist for our funny topic. Therefore my request, in case you should no longer be able to make it, could you please amend your RSVP by Tuesday afternoon to give those on the waitlist a chance to get in - and be notified on time?
