Sonnenallee - A great classic about the Fall of the Berlin Wall

A great classic German movie about the fall of Berlin Wall and life in Eastern Berlin.

A group of kids grows up on the wrong side of the Sonnenallee (Sun Avenue) in Berlin: the east side.

They live right next to one of the few border crossings between East and West reserved for German citizens.

The lives of these teenagers, their families, of the "West German" friends and relatives who come to visit, and of the East German border guards, all serve to illustrate the absurdity of everyday life on the Sonnenallee, and therefore throughout the former East Germany.

Best Screenplay

Looking forward to this :) For any other fans of Berlin, I've also just booked myself onto a book launch interview of "Berlin: Imagine a City" by the author of Meet The Germans. It's also at the Goethe Institut on the 28th April at 7pm. I think it could be interesting! Is anyone interested in doing this as another meet-up with a quick drink at the pub before? :)

I really enjoyed the film, understanding that it was a farce which had some discrepancies comparing to the reality. Really regret I could not stay for a discussion (if it took place) as I live far away.but very thankful for the organisers for having chosen such an interesting piece of cinematography.))

Apologies, I had completely forgotten about this event. It's a bummer, because I'm going to Berlin soon and I would have loved to see this. Gutted :(
