European Urban London Walks: Thames river walk Richmond to Hampton Court

Please join members of the London European Club for an urban walk along the Thames River for the section starting at Richmond to Hampton Court. We aim to start the walk at 11:15 sharp.

The walk is one section of The Thames Path National Trail that stretches westwards to the source of the River Thames in the Cotswolds, the London section covers a magical 40 miles (64 km) of easy, level walking on one or both banks of the river from Hampton Court Palace, through the heart of London to the East India Dock on the north bank and the River Darent on the south bank.  We will walk or cycle different sections in the next few months.

This is a peaceful and scenic walk.  You’ll see every imaginable waterborne activity along the way, beautiful meadows and pretty villages.  We pass Richmond, Teddington locks and Kingston.  This section is quite rural until we get to Kingston promenade.  We finish the hike at Hampton court where you can visit the palace, relax in the cafe or on the palace ground.

The pace will be easy going.  The terrain has few stretches that can be a bit muddy , if not from rain then from the river high tide.  Please be prepared.

Bring snacks and water for walk and a packed lunch.  We will have stop and have lunch along the way.  If you prefer not to bring packed lunch then there will be an option to eat at one of the restaurants on Kingston promenade.  We aim to have a late lunch, may be around 2pm.

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to make this a circular walk.  From Hampton, we need to take bus back to Richmond.  Bus R68 takes us from outside Hampton Court Palace back to richmond where we can take tube or train at the end.  For those who like to hang around, we can have a drink at Richmond before heading home.

NB. London European Club events are organized by dedicated volunteers who are very busy individuals. Please RSVP only if you are certain that you can attend this event or update your RSVP as soon as your circumstances change.  Canceling on the day of the meet up put me in difficult situation because I confirm the numbers for the restaurant the night before. If you don't show up you will be banned from the Club and you won't be able to enjoy our unique events any more.

    Samir,
Why not stopping at the boater's inn? It's a riverside pub with a huge garden in the middle of a small park, just out of Kingston.

Hi, Ok, we can try that. Some people may still prefer to bring packed lunch. Some people on the last walk were not happy with the speed of service (Of course, with a large numbers we may need to accept that) so they can overcome that by bringing a lunch.

Sure. Being in a park on the river allows to do both at the same time. Trust me,it's the best option on that route(at least without leaving the path)
