I have decided to organize a stroll in Windsor Park in the attemt to go places we have not been before. However if you are not used to long walks please do not join this event as the stroll will be 20km long. And it will not be a stroll really as we will aim to walk at least at 4-5 km per hour. So this is definitely not a stroll but a fast paced walk through Windsor Great Park, the size of some 24km in circumference. Windsor Great Park is far too large to be a park in the ordinary sense of the word and although there are formal gardens and graceful avenues of trees, large sections remain wooded and relatively wild. And we may even see deer, but do not count it, as the deer definitely is not too keen on seeing us.
Having a picnic along the way is a great idea, so bring your posh picnic cuttlery and chilled champagne. Or bring your snacks and sandwiches in a sandwich bag if you wish to, it doesn't matter really. Being known to be quite an egalitarian Club, we won't mind as long as you are having a nice time. So the idea of this walk is just to see where the English upper classes spent their outdoors time. It was William the Conqueror who established the Castle and acquired the surrounding forest for hunting. But we will not be visiting the Castle, as we want to spend the day outdoors doing the Long Walk lined with chesnut trees. We can stop a the cafe in Savill Gardens before we continue to the oak woodland and then to Valley Gardens and Virginia Water.
The last 5km are back to the Long Walk to head back to Windsor where we will stop for a pint at the Two Brewers before we head back to London and our normal daily grind. So for a day, wear your poshest hiking clothes ever but make sure they are comfortable because there will be a lot of walking. And you can even bring your unusual pet along. Or a +1.
Cost: The price of a return ticket including the £4 contribution to the European Club is £11.50. You will have to travel in groups of 3 on the way back.
Our walks are very popular so please RSVP only if you are sure that you can come along. Don't "book" a spot and change your RSVP last minute. I know that "game" and it will count as a "no show" which will ultimately result in being a "former member" of the best run European organization this side of Brussels.
