The first of a series of monthly music film nights at The Ivy House in SE15.
Based on the book of the same name by Allan Slutsky, Standing in the Shadows of Motown is a historical tribute to the unsung heroes responsible for some of the greatest hits of pop music. Part documentary and part concert performance, this film is an introduction to The Funk Brothers, the Hitsville studio band originally assembled by Berry Gordy in 1959. Over 40 years later, the remaining members reunited in their home base of Detroit tell their stories, remember their departed bandmates, and put on a concert.
Film starts at 8pm, runs for just under 2 hours and is a PG certificate. Motown/soul music before and after the film until 11pm.
The Ivy House kitchen is open from 6 to 9pm on a Monday and the bar remains open throughout the film until 11pm. More details here:
