Announcing a new Meetup for London Folk Music Meetup Group!

What: Jason Steel

When: Wednesday, March 10,[masked]:00 PM

Where:
The George Inn
77 Borough High Street,
London SE1 1NH
[masked]

This gig includes some of my favourite artists in one of my favourite boozers. Perfect! Jason Steel sings songs & plays the guitar, banjo & ukulele with thumb & forefinger only. He was raised by his father in South Yorkshire, but now rests his head in North London.

The launch party for debut album Fire Begot Ash will be at the historic George Inn pub in Borough, south London on March 10th. The rest of the bill will include the always excellent Nancy Wallace and some of the Owl Service and other performers yet to be confirmed. Tickets are a bargain ?5 for what promises to be an excellent lineup. Tickets can be purchased in advance from the rifmountain website now - the ticket price includes gig CD and if you buy your ticket in advance you'll also receive a DVD of the night.

'Steel is an accomplished fingerpicker... demonstrating a real knack for ragtime and Appalachian styles of folk. A deft, emotive performer, he can write too: 'Twined' and the Takoma-style 'Box of Precious' both stand up particularly well, leaving you primed and ready for that forthcoming full-length.' Boomkat

"With the cautious, unhurried pace of a Fahey disciple, on a brace of rags his picking trickles easily like an Appalachian mountain stream. Meanwhile, across an array of original songs - and an absolutely stunning 'False Bride' - his soft voice lulls seductively. It's a gracious, stately debut" ***** R2 magazine

"Fusing influences from legendary players such as Leadbelly, Tony Iommi, Bert Jansch, Mississippi John Hurt, Elizabeth Cotten and Jimmy Page into his own distinctive style, the result is timeless, heartwarming music. There is a hushed intimacy here at times so delicate you almost feel like you're imposing simply by listening." R.M website
