Dear London Futurists Group members
A recent meet-up message that my 6 month organiser dues will ‘auto-renew’ on 27th December, reminded me that I really should be doing more to support this group.
The former organiser and current co-organiser, David Wood, has done far more for this group than I have and many other members are more active. Acknowledging my tardiness I will therefore carry this ‘auto-renew’ and then switch off this feature, so that others can take the organiser role in six months time, should they wish.
For now, please note that every member can propose meetups and the system also allows for ‘discussions’ over the bulletin boards. The last post was back in September and the last entry into the Events/Meetups forum was from me, back in July.
We have over 300 pairs of ears and eyes to look out for third party events that may be of interest to members, which we can post in this great resource. Were we a bit more proactive, there should be at least a dozen posts on interesting events each month.
There must be over a hundred universities, research establishments, museums, societies and other organisations within the M25, collectively delivering a stream of open seminars/lectures on a host of issues of interest to ‘futurists’.
Our eclectic interests cover far more than just Humanity+ and nanotechnology. News on any open event that can help members explore how the future may unfold (Political, Economical, Social, Technological, Economical and Legal – ‘PESTEL’ – plus futurist-relevant methodologies) would be welcome.
This is therefore a plea to everybody to add to their list of New Year’s resolutions the intention to be more proactive about posting potentially interesting open events to the Events/Meetups forum. I promise to do the same.
As I now need to eat some mince pies before trying to work out how to get people from Heathrow on Boxing Bay without having to drive there..
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
