Dear Friends,

The United Kingdom could soon become a "surveillance superpower" --- more so than it already is --- following today's publication of the draft Communications Data Bill by the U.K. government.

Presumably not to be confused with the Draft Communciations Data bill that was published on June 14 (ie six months ago today), subject to a public consultation exercise,  discussed at length by everyone interested in the territory, and almost at as much length in newspapers, and this week the subject of critical reports from the Joint Select Committee and the Intelligence and Security Committee?  The one with "June 2012" on the front page?  The one that the Lib Dems have been trailing their opposition to ever since we discussed the early proposals at a meeting at the LSE in April, attended by David Davis and Julian Huppert and several hundred others, who have both now said they will vote against it?

Hey Lisa, there's going to be an Olympic Games in London soon.  You should get some tickets: it's going to be great.
