Design studio Custhom is curating an exhibition of ‘tactile posters’ – with designs stitched on to paper using a ‘hacked’ digital embroidery machine.
Custhom has developed links with the digital embroidery industry through its embroidered wallpaper projects, and has now extended into this show.
Custhom founders Jemma Ooi and Nathan Philpott have chosen a series of designers from disciplines including fashion, illustration and graphics. Each has been tasked with creating a 2D design which will be translated on to paper using the embroidery machine.
Those exhibiting include Illustrators David Longshaw and Paul Blow and graphic designer Andre Beato.
A limited run of each poster will be available to buy, with 10 per cent of the proceeds going to charity Art Against Knives.
Pens and Needles is at Print House Gallery, 18 Ashwin Street, London E8, from 6 December-14 January 2013.
