PLEASE NOTE: The Mitre only holds a license until 10.30pm on Sunday night, so the event will finish at that time.
Following the success of our paranormal investigation at The Grenadier in April, we are now heading to Lancaster Gate to visit the spooky Mitre Pub.
We're very excited about the opportunity to visit this grade II listed historic pub, built in 1850, which to our knowledge has never had a paranormal team inside it to investigate its spookiness.
Underneath The Mitre in its cellars is Old Mary's - the site of the vicious and bloody murder of a serving girl. Her sad tale is told on the Old Mary's Website (http://oldmarys.co.uk/):
"Mary came to London from the countryside in search of work, she was young, pretty and a little naïve. After a chance meeting with the young Lord Craven at Lancaster Gate, he took pity on the young girl and offered her work in his kitchens. The other servants very quickly took to Mary with her mild manner and sweet charm.
"She was in awe of the handsome Lord Craven and he doted on her, they fell in love and planned to run away together, but Lord Craven’s wife had other plans ... Mary was found in the Scullery with a knife through her heart. It’s been said that Mary can still be heard weeping in the kitchens of the Mitre, so if you feel a chill or hear a whisper, fear not, it’s just Old Mary searching for her love ..."
Mary - who was obviously young when she was murdered so I don't know why they call her Old Mary - apparently still haunts The Mitre today. So we will be there with our expert team from White Light Paranormal - lead by psychic medium Barbara Lowe - to find out what's going on.
Jon Kaneko-James - from Boo Tours - will be on hand to give a talk about haunted pub and its surrounds.
The night will begin at 6.30pm when people can buy their dinner and drinks at the pub, then we will be starting at 7.30pm. The investigation will end about midnight but people are free to leave when it suits.
We will have access to the entire cellar, which is very large and includes the scullery where Mary was murdered. We're organised with pub management to get lots of access to areas in the historic pub so it should be a lot of fun.
