Shame about the weather, but I'd like to remind everyone about the Historical Novel Society Conference coming up at the end of September.
I plugged it last a few months ago, but the programme is fully finalised now and tickets are selling fast. If you're a fan of historical fiction, you shouldn't miss out on this wonderful opportunity to hear from many of your favourite historical novelists, discover new ones and meet up with other fans of historical fiction.
Just to give you a taster of who'll be there, the guests of honour are Philippa Gregory, Lindsey Davis, Bernard Cornwell and Margaret George. Other authors participating in the event include: Elizabeth Chadwick, Barbara Erskine, Diana Gabaldon, Sarah Dunant, CW Gortner, Rory Clements, Emma Darwin, Angus Donald, Harry Sidebottom, Barbara Ewing, Daisy Goodwin, Karen Harper, Helen Hollick, Doug Jackson, James Forrester, Gillian Bagwell, Vanora Bennett and many more.
See here for more details on the programme and you can book direct on the website:
Just to give you a brief outline: on the Friday evening is a reception, Saturday is a full day of sessions, Saturday evening is a limited-spaces banquet (with optional costume pageant) and Sunday is a morning of sessions ending after lunch. There are optional excursions on Friday daytime and on Sunday afternoon.
You can book for any part(s) of the event that you wish to attend; there is no obligation to go to everything (though of course it's slightly cheaper as an all-in package minus the excursions). You do not have to be an HNS member to attend (though there is a discount for members and you can always join before booking!).
Do let me know if you have any questions about the conference. Hope to see you there!
