Hi everyone, really sorry to have missed the last two events, it's been an incredibly hectic few weeks. The reverse innovation event sounds fantastic, please do let me know if I can be of any help on it and have a lovely holiday season.

The general consensus was for different activities in 2013:

    * "pitching day" for the group where people can get advice and a boost for new ideas - definitely doable with minimal organising
    * reverse innovation event (see Google Doc) is of interest - let's investigate the possibilities (Tony willing to help fundraise)

And in the wouldn't it be great category:

    * better description of who we are, what we do - mission-y type thing Also important to keep in mind, Tony will be gone for 6 months during 2013, and we might need more help in convening/organising.

Thanks Janet and Matt for your responses. Ref Janet's suggestion - I have copied to the shared document. Ref Matt and the suggestion to:- come up with a really easy, short, succinct list of "What we want.... what kinds of people/organisations would be helpful... in what capacity... for what time period"....Free and easy so even if it doesn't help it hasn't taken long..." - It seems good in theory but in practice I'm not convinced about the "not taking long part". Remember that all of the discussion I would have to do would be done at a distance - with people having no mental picture of "an audience" for the wish list. Any chance we could do it the other way around? What if this group was to do a similar exercise to answer the complementary question "What kinds of people/organisations would people in this group like to connect with in Africa l... in what capacity... for what time period"?

Looks like I won't be make it at all this evening. Maybe we can explore overlap between this meetup group and Dadamac's network in the new year. Or if anyone wants to contact me directly then please send me a message from here.

I probably can't arrive until around 7.30. I'm interested in anything that builds bridges between this group and my friends who are doing (or trying to do) useful local development initiatives in Africa and are in contact with me thanks to ICT. I have been failing to build such bridges for them for over a decade... which is how I came to be awarded the OLPC laptop for being the greatest failure at UK Fail Faire 2012. That is where I came across this group. NB Until recently Dadamac's bridge-building was funded though some regular part-time work I was doing which has now ended. See http://dadamac.net/ to get the idea. I have not decided what I will do about Dadamac in 2013. I'd like to mine our archives to explore possible overlapping areas of interest with members of this group, with a view to introducing people and helping them to do useful stuff together.

Pam - sorry won't see you today - just a thought but maybe you could do some brainstorming with your friends and come up with a really easy, short, succint list of "What we want" - not in terms of kit etc. but what kinds of people/organisations would be helpful... in what capacity... for what time period... get it on their website then help promote it to networks like this..? Worth a shot? Free and easy so even if it doesn't help it hasn't taken long...

If you haven't been to this venue before there is a map (above) but just follow the many street signs to the Museum of London and remember that the venue is not at street level but up above you!

Hi everybody, Your Christmas geek paparazza speaking. Please bring Christmassy or geeky accessories if you'd like to appear in all of your December splendour, or simply embarrass somebody.

Also, we'd like to discuss promoting some kind of bigger #ICT4D event - perhaps weekend - in 2013. Ideas initially kicked about by organisers are * openspace workshop for fresh/embryonic ideas
    * reverse innovation - bringing the best of ICT4D for productive exchange with UK social innovators (interest from Goldsmiths in hosting)

Here is a Google Doc to collaborate and collect ideas:

Great idea - I was thinking recently it would be good if the group could develop some sort of combined voice - publish something, or comment on something, or even just have a kind of statement... Maybe too ambitious seeing as its quite an eclectic bunch so there may not actually BE much common ground, but a nice aim I think..? And an event like the one above could be a good place to work it out... :-)

What kind of ICT4D events, themes, meet-ups would you like to see organised in 2013. Grab a beer, pull up a chair, and let's make a plan!

More people... from wider cross-section of places/elements (e.g. all of corporates, NGOs, academia, startups, government etc.)... BUT that obviously means it needs a bit more active facilitation and harder to arrange, source venues etc... Good luck :-)
