Tabletop Day

London’s friendliest tabletop gaming meetup!

To mark International Tabletop Day, London Indiemeet is holding a special Extrameet to welcome newcomers. If you’ve never come to one of our meetups before, or haven’t been for a while, this is your perfect hopping on point!

At Indiemeet, we play small press games of the imagination. Most are roleplaying games, but in some you might explore the story of a community or even a whole civilisation. Some games have a moderator who guides the other players through the story; in others everyone shares narrative control equally. All are designed to help you tell and engaging story and have a great time.

Wil Wheaton’s Tabletop has showcased one of the games we play regularly, Fiasco, and you can see that episode here. One of our regulars, Richard, has produced a series of short videos detailing some of the other games we frequently play.

How it works: Come along for 12:00pm and meet folk in the main bar. At 12:15-12:20 we head downstairs to the lounge bar and everyone who is wants to run something gives a short pitch of what it is, up to how many players can be accommodated, and what the game is about.

At 12:30 your group grabs a table and starts playing!

The slot finishes by around 4:30pm and the pitching process then repeats at around 5pm for the evening slot (sometimes we start a bit early, so make sure you’re there by 4.30pm).

Newcomers Choice: We love to welcome new people to the meetup. So in the first slot, if it's your first visit to London Indiemeet, then we'll ask you what you want to play and make sure that runs!

Pitchers: as this is a special event for welcoming newcomers, we’d encourage you to offer your more accessible games for the first slot, games that you are confident newcomers will be able to engage with. For the second slot, feel free to offer more experimental games.

Want to pitch for the first time at Indiemeet? We want to help: We love members stepping forward to pitch the games they love. If it's your first time pitching at Indiemeet then tell a host and we'll try to fill that game first.

We hope you have a great time, and come along to our regular meetup, which typically takes place on the third Saturday every month.

Here's the link for the Cambridge meet I mentioned in announcements:
Rest assured our RPG skills are greater than our web design skills.

Thanks to Robert for running Remember Tomorrow, and Andy for running One Last Job. I particularly liked the faction-building and faction-vs-PC scene-calling of Remember Tomorrow, though I was less sure about the nitty-gritty of the rules; is there anything else out there that has a similar scene-calling/worldbuilding structure?

Very smooth process of getting people into play. Generosity to newbies much appreciated.

Thanks to everyone who attended our Tabletop Day Extrameet. Great to see so many new faces. Our next event will be on 19 April, also at St Christopher's Inn. Hope to see you there!

Cripes I miss this group having missed quite a few meetings. There's only one thing for it - I'm hopping on a train and getting myself along today!

Looks like it's going to be a good turnout tomorrow!

I'll be pitching Fiasco in the first session (currently thinking of the The Last Heist playset, and The Quiet Year in the second session.

What would you like to play?

If I make it along (and have a chance to play it beforehand to familiarise myself with the rules) I'd like to pitch Will Hindmarch's new stealth RPG Dark which recently got funded on Kickstarter. The rules are still in Beta but there are enough released to play through an adventure that was released at the same time.
